Erdogan will escalate the tensions with Greece to postpone elections.

  1. How? Only by declaring war this could be achieved but that does not make sense or benefits him or his country in the long run.

  2. From the article:

    – Erdogan is doing this deliberately. What he will do is to escalate tensions and try to create a pretext for the state of emergency so that he can delay the election no matter what.

    – Tayyip Erdogan is looking for an excuse to postpone the elections. It could be with Greece, it could be with Syria. It can be based on ethnicity inside, it can be with lifestyle inside.

    – Under the rule of Mr. Erdogan, whether during his prime ministership or presidency, there is total of 400 billion dollars siphoned abroad. The big 5 construction companies of Turkey works with 25% of commission, meaning that with every contract they sign, they give 25% of the money to Erdogan’s party. 400 billion dollars they control is deposited in Qatar.

For the ones who don’t know, Cem Uzan is old Turkish politician and businessman, and was one of the richest people in Turkey. His political party got 7.5% of vote in the first election but became an enemy of Erdogan and had to leave country. He was deep in business and politics.

  3. I mean everything he did in the last month reeked of desperate election maneuverings.

From the escaltion towards greece or syria and even his “rebranding” as türkiye.

  4. your title is misleading. those are thoughts of an ex-politician about upcoming elections and he says he might escalate, not he will escalate. though greece is escalating tension enough, erdogan doesn’t need to do anything extra.

  5. This wouldn’t surprise me but I believe Erdoğan is more prepared to instigate something akin to civil war (the stage is set with millions of Syrians/Afghans/Pakistani) or new operations in Syria. This would help him avoid devastating sanctions while tearing country apart and also have a hold on what can be done. Attacking Greece is a HUGE gamble. Remember that all he cares about is staying in power or having an easy way out if he fails to do so – with a war against Greece, that would be a big *if* because he can’t simply have it going for a while and then say “OK we stop hehehe” as if nothing had happened. On the other hand, international community is less likely to care (at least as much) about incursions into Syria or a brother-killing party in Turkey. It also has to be noted that Turkish media barely speaks about Greece nowadays. I reckon Turkish media (fully at the hands of Erdo) would pump full-time propaganda to set the stage for an invasion of islands and/or mainland Greece if they were serious about this.

I’m almost sure he will pull something but if it comes to that I hope it will be limited to our country or Syria. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a barbarian Turk for sure, I don’t think Greece should claim the entirety of Aegean Sea just because they have a bunch of rock, *but* I don’t want them or us to die for our delusional sultan’s plans who will end up devastating us anyway, it’s not like we would get anything meaningful from attacking Greece. With a competent and decent government, we could always talk about our problems – if we haven’t fought for almost a century, I’m sure we can keep it that way. It’s just… not working with guys whose understanding of diplomacy is “Hey Germans you are Nazis and Greece is gay btw”.

  6. He’s not going to do anything with Greece besides the usual barking, why would he, when unlike a war with greece invading Syria is actually something the turks support and, with russia distracted and weakened he can actually score a major victory there?
