28% of Slovaks believe the West provoked Russia, but only 5% of Poles. (OBSEC poll, 2022 in CEE)

  1. Hmm.

I mean, Russia’s basic contention is that permitting Ukraine into NATO represents NATO aggression against Russia. I’d kind of wonder whether some guy in Slovakia who belongs to that 28%, who agrees with that, also feels that NATO permitting Slovakia in represents aggression against Russia.

  2. Can’t speak for other countries, but for what I know as a romanian, there are a lot of ppl here (in Romania) who still believe the Comunism era was a good one and long for it. Russia was (back then) and is viewed as their friend and savior unfortunately.

A lot of the Eastern countries are still young democracies, many people misunderstand democracy and if you correlate this with the growing extremist (left and right) parties in most countries of Europe, those %s are expected I’d say. Again… Unfortunately…

I’m pretty sure some of those who were asked don’t even know the details of the war, they just feel better/safer taking Russia’s side for some reason.

  3. I for one feel better for Bulgarians not being the biggest fools of the lot for once when it comes to Russia. For too long have we been the most poisoned by Rusophilia.

  4. the first and the last time i went to (rural) slovakia somewhere around 2015, out of around 10 locals i’ve had long enough conversations with to be asked where i am from, 5 or 6 told me (very “compassionately”): “oh yeah, ukraine. fucking americans wage war there, those bastards”. i even attempted to explain it the first couple of cases, but that was like talking to a wall. i never even thought to visit it again after that

  5. It’s really concerning, but in Lithuania, Poles are more favourable to Russia than Russians themselves:

    >Meanwhile, more than eight out of ten Lithuanians aged 18 and over have an unfavourable opinion of Russia (59% very unfavourable and 24% rather unfavourable), one in ten have a favourable opinion of the country (3% very favourable and 8% rather favourable), while 6% have no opinion.

    >Young people under 30, people living in large cities, respondents with more than secondary education, and Lithuanians have a more unfavourable opinion of Russia than others, while Russian respondents (23% favourably, 66% unfavourably, and 11% had no opinion) and Polish respondents (28% favourably, 47% unfavourably, and 25% had no opinion) have a slightly more positive opinion of the country than others.

So IDK, maybe we need some Polish propaganda for them?

  6. Well, i cannot go to a police officer, confess that i murdered somebody and say that he provoked me and do not go to jail.

  7. Looking at the Comments. You westerns cant really accept the fact that someone has a different opinion. Where is your “freedom of speech”?
