Fun fact, those raised barricades, except for the one in the far left, are all facing the wrong direction. Their intention was the landing craft would ride up on them and tip over. The film got them very wrong 😕
Was there a war on?
Dad was there, never forget, landed day 2 or 3 , said dead bodies all over, ran into a tent as a private and colonels said, what do you want private? He said looking for a place for his unit to land, colonel’s said, we don’t give a fuck were your your unit lands, get the fuck out of here, he saluted and said , yes sir, he was 19 years old
A café in Wexford used to have a photo on the wall from the set of Saving Private Ryan of Larry O’Gorman showing Tom Hanks (in full uniform) a hurley and sliotar!
If you like a long walk, shes the girl for you pick your own turn around point, ive done a good few miles and its lovely,
The raven wood is 6k also nice
This was last week when people chose this instead of travelling from Dublin Airport 😳
Wexford June 6th 1944 – The first attempt to evict all travellers from Wexford Town and move them on to a halting site in Cashel. Failed miserably. Nearly 200,000 soldiers lost their lives. And Wexford town is almost entirely populated by travellers today.
At first I thought this was going to be another Dublin Airport meme
Its worse than d Norman’s!
My uncle worked on the set. I have a bullet casing. My grandmas shed was also made from the timber when it was broken apart. Best of all was the fake body parts he used to keep in his car, random severed legs and arms etc
Have a mate from the Wexico who retells this story at almost ever session and how they used a bloke in a wheel chair to play the part of your man who got his legs blown off.
