The Legislative Yuan today held a roll-call vote on nominees for the Central Election Commission (CEC), approving Michael You (游盈隆) as chairman.
You is currently the chairman of the Taiwanese Public Opinion Foundation and was approved by a unanimous vote.
Also approved as commissioners were China University of Science and Technology vice president Lee Li-chung (李禮仲), Fooyin University professor Su Jia-hong (蘇嘉宏) and Soochow University professor Su Tzu-chiao (蘇子喬).

Soochow University law professor Hu Po-yen’s (胡博硯) nomination as vice chairman was rejected, as was former lawmaker Huang Wen-ling’s (黃文玲) nomination for commissioner, with neither securing a majority vote.
The CEC currently has four commissioners, one short of the regulatory minimum required for the commission to convene meetings and pass resolutions.
The Cabinet said on Dec. 29 last year that it had submitted a list of seven nominees to the Legislative Yuan.
The votes are not debated on the floor, but are first referred to the relevant committee for review, as per Article 29 of the Act Governing the Legislative Yuan’s Power (立法院職權行使法).
A roll-call vote is then put before the legislature, with nominees requiring approval from more than half of the legislators, or 57 votes, to pass.
This morning, 112 of the 113 lawmakers collected a ballot, Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) said.
The ruling Democratic Progressive Party voted in favor of all nominees, while the opposition Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party supported only You, Lee, Su Chia-hong and Su Tzu-chiao, the ballot results showed.
