European Commission agriculture auditors will visit Greece in early June to verify implementation of an action plan submitted by Athens on the final accreditation review for integrating the agricultural payments body OPEKEPE into the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).
The plan was delivered to Brussels on Thursday, the deadline day, after Greece received a six-month extension. Commission officials will review it in the coming days and send observations to Athens before the audit mission.
The process began in September 2024, when Greek authorities suspended the accreditation of the country’s agricultural payments agency, OPEKEPE, commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari said. Restoring OPEKEPE’s accreditation “can only be done by the Greek authorities,” she said, noting the commission’s role is to ensure EU farm funds are managed properly.
