GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Ahead of Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Rocky Mount on Friday, WITN spoke to Eastern Carolina residents to hear what issues they hoped the vice president would address.
Some Eastern Carolinians say they are frustrated with the high cost of living, including prices at the pump.
“With the gas prices and everything going up, we need more money,” Greenville resident Erica Canady says.
During Vance’s visit, he addressed a variety of current issues, including the economy and gas prices.
According to GasBuddy, the average price per gallon across North Carolina is $3.48, up more than 77 cents from last month.
The vice president said the affordability crisis was caused by the Biden administration and the Trump administration is working to correct it.
As a mother working to provide for her daughter, Greenville resident Erica Canady says this is one of the most important issues for her.
“It’s kind of hard to support your family when some jobs are still paying under minimum wage,” Canady says.
While the conflict in Iran also remains a pressing concern for many in Eastern Carolina, Greenville resident Johnny Williams told WITN he would rather the vice president focus on local issues and hopes the administration prioritizes the U.S.
“I know there’s a lot of things going on in the world today and everything, but I would like to offer them to also look at our local economies, and getting prices down and getting to the point people can buy homes and stuff like that now,” Williams says.
Vance says President Trump is working to bring gas prices back down.
