Spending money on plants for a new office, specifically to help staff wellness isn’t a headline.
The bigger issue would be How it built up £760m in debt in the first place.
Using an old fashioned envelope, I calculated that they spent £140 on each plant. Are they big plants, did the alleged sum include ongoing maintenance?
They spent £8k on the plants, pots amd fittings and £20k on the Gardner.
I hate financially illiterate headlines like this. The plants aren’t linked to the bankruptcy. This was either a one off cost, or these were rentals. In either case, the 27k figure is indicative of nothing. Over how long we this 27k spent? Would they not have gone bankrupt if they didn’t buy the plants? Of course they would.
It’s a bit like saying “husband who rents house spends £500 on flowers for wife”, when that’s over 12 years.
For those interested they ran up debt by buying a bunch property. Classic financial mismanagement of public money. Ridiculous
They should have bought a lot more cacti their a hardier plant.
Is that why Reading Borough Council are utterly useless 🤣
