France are wearing a unique light blue shirt against England in the final round of the 2026 Six Nations and it may confuse some fans.

Les Bleus, as the name suggests, refers to the team’s iconic blue home shirt that usually features white and red highlights in honour of France’s Tricolor flag.

The away shirt, used when there is a kit clash against the likes of Italy, means France sometimes wear a white alternative kit.

The decision to ditch the traditional blue for the home shirt to instead wear a light blue kit has confused some fans who think there will be a kit clash with England’s white shirts. So why are France making the change for the one-off home game?

The stunning light blue shirt is actually a nod to tradition. France rugby is celebrating its 120th anniversary and the kit is an homage to one worn by France as far back as 1906 in the first of the Le Crunch games against England.

Adidas, which has launched the kit and has opened pre-orders for fans who want to get their hands on the shirt, says: “Inspired by the 1906 kit, this jersey features a striking design, echoing the spirit of French rugby.”

Why England will be easily ‘identifiable’ despite Six Nations’ annual kit-clash catastrophe

Modern technology

While the striking shirt is based on a kit that is 120 years old, it also features some modern technology such as Adidas’ Climacool feature that helps to disperse sweat and keep players and fans cool.

The design is obviously retro with the French rugby badge and polo collar included to mirror the style of the time.

The only modern aspect is the subtle Adidas badge and the three stripes down the sleeve in the colours of the French flag.

The shirt has proved to be so popular it has already sold out but Adidas has reopened pre-orders for a second sale for those who missed out.

The shirt is priced at £85 and pre-orders are open, but fans may have to wait a few months to actually get their hands on it according to the Adidas website. You can order it here.
