20 years ago today, Robbie Keane scored the famous goal against Germany in the 2002 World Cup. He’d become one of only two players to score against Oliver Khan that tournament – the other being Ronaldo 9! Do you remember where you were for this?

Jesus I remember watching this up in the Sandyford House… Ive never seen the roof get lifted off a place like that was incredible. I
Met a girl my age outside the pub watching the big screen. We weren’t mad football heads so we went around the corner to the hill and smoked a joint. 15 minutes later we heard the screams of Dublin and knew something big happened. She whipped a shoulder out of her bag and we necked it and buzzed into the madness.
My God I wish I was 10 again.
Doing my leaving cert history exam but we all heard screaming and shouting from outside the school so I knew we either drew or won
Doing the junior cert, the invigilator was listening to it on headphones and thumped the desk when Keane scored..a roar went up through the school. 20 years…fucking hell
On a break in between leaving cert exams and watching in our English teacher’s classroom.
was waiting for a girl in Eyre Square in Galway. teenage me liked football but teenage me would have also torn off my left nut to get any girl attention at the time. The square was a great place to hear the roars come from each direction. Sorry I missed it live. also… kinda not sorry
Arsene Wenger used to say Niall Quinn had a hand for a head, a Dublin taxi driver I had once said Robbie Keane’s greatest trait was that he never struck a ball cleanly.
Makes quite the pairing.
İt was one of the drunkest I have ever been in my life. İn the top 3 like. 16 years old, couldn’t even see the ball.
In an Irish pub in Leipzig ☘️. Mick McCarthy’s reaction summed up everyone’s thoughts well!
I was sat at home in Brazil with my first born in my arms… and his wee head nearly bounced off the ceiling with the throw up in the air he got when that goal went in
No fucking clue. It’s so bad, I couldn’t even tell you where I was for the action replay. I had two chances to remember this and I just can’t drag up either. Although in 2002 I did horse a fair few iskanders kebabs on Camden st and temple bar. Fuckin great kebabs
The ITV commentary on this was the best.
Watched this in bed with a dislocated knee I got playing in teacher v students TY match at the end of 4th year. That team was phenomenal, even without Roy Keane. Young Robbie, Duff, Finnan, Steven Reid Shay Given in his prime and experienced pros like Matt Holland, Mark Kinsella, Ian Harte, and big Niall.
Can’t see us troubling a World Cup any time soon. Cheers John Delaney!
I hadn’t quite gotten the hang of the whole existing thing by 2002 tbh.
I remember it well. Refused entry to the pub for being 16 and had to watch it at home.
Back when celebrations were cool.
Leaving Cert English
Yes, I was standing behind the goal he scored into.

I was in primary school – we wheeled in the tv for the game. Scenes of 40+ kids packed into the one class all sharing seats, the minute the goal was scored we all did our best impression of his cartwheel and fist pumps.
Teachers half heatedly trying to stop us.
I just got home from a school trip, I remember it was like a ghost town. My dad came back from work to watch the match and we were losing 1-0. It was approaching the final minutes and I remember my dad saying
“That’s it. We’re out of the World Cup.”
and walking out of the room in a bit of a sulk – then Robbie Keane scored and he went MENTAL.
My mother was throwing me around the place and we were laughing at the German supporters in shock on the TV. I remember seeing my friends dads that day and they were also ecstatic, it was like all the dads in the neighborhood were on drugs (the happy kind).
Never saw my dad as happy as he was the day Robbie Keane scored that equaliser, RIP.
I remember it vividly.
I was in 3rd or 4th class in primary school.
They wheeled in a TV to each classroom so all classes could watch the match.
Whole school let out a roar when he scored.
No homework was given out that day.
I was born during this match, the doctors and nurses kept coming in and out of the operating room asking for updates on the match. Priorities were in order
Me mums ovaries mate
Robbie snuck the ball past Khan
We sang and sang
Bootin down the autobahn
Ah the good old long ball tactic…it worked when Robbie was up front.
Cue the Feeder montage [doo dodo doo, doo dodo doo](https://youtu.be/Qeo3KuT1esc)
I remember well, I was in the sitting room watching by myself, my da would have been at work, my ma was in the kitchen keeping an ear out and my sisters were down the road playing
Genuinely has to be one of the most underrated premier league strikers of all time. Was a class act!
I was 7, I watched this match with an Irish flag painted on each side of my face. It was the first time I heard of Robbie Keane and its one of my earliest memories of watching soccer, my sport of choice today.
Good times! Now our team literally couldn’t even buy a match, I’m surprised when they actually complete a pass or have a shot on goal.
If we win a corner, I literally celebrate and then I get really sad again 5 seconds later.
In primary school. I had a dentist appointment that day. I remember watching bits of USA v Portugal in the waiting room. USA won that day. Then watched this match at home
