This is absurd. The EU nations in NATO are spending 3x Russia on defense. Yes that is right, the combined defense of the EU nations is the 3rd largest military in the world and that is without the UK.
This article is an absurd position from the US that is out spending the entire world in defense. The US addiction to defense spending should be a global threat.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the US, it’s one of my citizenships, I served honorably in the US Army for 6 years. I am also a Luxembourg citizen and raising my children here. Europe is my future and future generations.
The US needs to cut defense in 2/3rds and work with all our Allies for global defense. This go it alone is a global threat.
wants us Europeans to buy more useless american weapons so they can get richer. Cool story, bro
We should be spending more but times are tough so cost cutting and lost capabilities are in the near future
Spending is not the issue.
EU members backstabbing each other to profit themselves is the issue.
Germany with their precious pipeline. Spain is selling weapons to Turkey.
People in Europe have been to comfortable and think war is not an option anymore after two world wars. But what we have in Europe is special and needs to be protected. Protected by a strong defense.
Nowadays Europe is encircled in the East (Russia, Turkey) and South(Maghreb countries and Turkey with influence in Libya). When they want money, they unleash a wave of human ammo in the form of refugees. And Europe has to accept it, everytime Europe accepts an other term of these countries it gets more un-united. We need a strong defense to keep our values.
No. As history proven now and then, that following US steps on military (and attitudes due of it), do not benefit Europe in any way. The idea, that conflicts can be sorted ”American way”, is long overdue and in practice only creating more problems than initially- and yes, Afghanistan is a prime example. We are not supposed to repeat mistakes but only in more expensive way.
You can’t have a common defence policy without a common foreign policy.
Maybe step up on coronavirus first before starting wars
