  1. What do people think about this? I think that they will have a hard time with this as if they are serious about punishing teachers who went against what the rules specifically said was allowed then they will have to arrest the hundreds of teachers who meted out corporal punishment over students not knowing the answer to a question.

  2. My primary school principal used to hit and choke us especially the traveller children and nothing happened. He was well love by the GAA so the gards never did anything. This was in the 2000s BTW.

  3. I remember a substitute primary teacher putting a student in a bin, this was back in 1990’s. Another repeatedly asked a student if he was disabled knowing he had a disabled sibling.

  4. 1970’s primary school was like that, I remember the head master punching a toddler from either baby infants or senior infants because he was not in line. Horrific, still remember it clearly.

We were like 10 years old, and our whole class witnessed it, we all knew it was wrong.

  5. We had an Irish teacher who used to take people into a storage room to beat or molest I’m not sure. Kids never looked happy coming out and only went in if he was in trouble for something. I seen the teacher hit kids lightly in public but they went in the room when he was extra angry (or horny who knows).

He was made vice principal after I left. Probably dead now. This was in the late 90s.

He would give random impromptu assemblies to tell us all we were dirty knackers (his words) and didn’t wash ourselves, then pick a fight with one of the kids and take them off to the cupboard if they gave him guff.

  6. I went to national school in the early 80’s and or teacher used to hit us with a cane she thought up to 2nd class. She would hold you by the arm and just swing that cane at you. I wasn’t good at maths so felt it regularly. Then we moved into the masters room for 3rd class and you would get knuckles across your head. Parents knew they did nothing and seem to have wiped it from their minds as if it never happened. I ducking hate that bastard refuse to speak to him when I see him.
I am definitely damaged because of what I went through as a child

  7. Came across a few violent bully and pedo teachers in my time, 90s-00s. The kids complaints were brushed aside at the time cause “sure that doesnt happen anymore”. I hope its changed now but I do wonder…

  8. I went to De la Salle ballyfermot in the 70s

God only knows how long an investigation into the running of that school would take.

    And unearth
