A winter storm bringing heavy snow from Sunday morning through Monday evening is prompting some Sault Ste. Marie businesses to close early or adjust operating hours

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 is closed Monday. If you have St. Paddy’s stew tickets we will be doing the event on Tuesday, March 17 from 5 to 7.

We will be rescheduling our paramedics health clinic as well.

Superior Family Health Team will close on Monday.

Soo Yellow Cab is closed today and Monday.

Great Lakes Outfitters will be closed on Monday, March 16.

The Indigenous Friendship Centre in Sault Ste. Marie will be closed on Monday. 

Superior Business Solutions and AK Graphix will be closed Monday, March 16 due to the winter storm. We will re-open Tuesday at 9 am.

The John Howard Society main office at 27 King Street will be closed on Monday, March 16. Staff will reach out to their clients to reschedule appointments.

Eye Care Algoma will be closed Monday, March 16. We will call affected patients to reschedule their appointments. Stay safe out there!

Liberty Tax – Due to extreme weather Liberty Tax at both location in Sault Ste Marie and the location in Blind River will be closed Monday. Appointments will be called and rescheduled.

Absolute Hearing Care – Closed Monday March 16, due to inclement weather. Patients with appointments will be contacted to reschedule.

FYidoctors Great Northern location is closed on Monday.

Fusion Financial Bookkeeping, Tax Preparation and Business Advisory Services will be closed on Monday, March 16.

Waterfront Child Development Centre – All programs closed Monday, March 16, due to heavy snow, inclement weather, and poor road conditions.

The Sault Ste Marie Métis Centre will be closed on Monday, reopening Tuesday – weather permitting.

Raker on Peoples Road will be closed Monday.

Community Living Algoma offices in the Sault, Wawa and Elliot Lake will be closed Monday. 

Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will be closed on Monday. The board and staff of the public library hopes that everyone will stay safe, warm, and in the company of a good book while we weather this storm.

Vision Optical and Boutique by Heather, with optometrist Dr. Brian Matthews, Sarah Rohe and Brittany Belleau will be closed on Monday. All appointments previously scheduled will be cancelled and you will be contacted to reschedule. We will re open on Tuesday at 9 am

Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig will be closed on Monday.

Algoma University – Closed on Monday due to weather. All in-person classes are cancelled. Online classes will continue as planned. Please stay safe and continue to check your email, social media, and the University website for updates. Unless otherwise noted, in-person classes and operations are expected to resume as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, March 17.

HART Hub – The Sault Ste. Marie HART Hub and men’s overnight shelter will be open for essential services only on Monday. All services are expected to resume on Tuesday, weather permitting. The HART Hub and shelter space doors are open Monday at 721 Wellington St., offering a warm and safe space. Closed Monday, all counselling, case management, housing outreach, Clubhouse, Beehive, Iris Place, and Downtown Ambassadors functions at all CMHA Algoma locations. The Central Access and Information service at 386 Queen St. is also closed Monday. Scheduled visits may be cancelled. HART Hub staff will reach out to clients to confirm, prioritizing safety.

Sault Community Career Centre – Closed Monday, March 16 due to severe winter weather.

District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) – All offices closed Monday, March 16, including Downtown Hub (548 Albert St. E.), Second Line West and Chapple Avenue Hubs, and DSSAB-operated child care programs. Offices expected to reopen Tuesday, March 17 at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting. Clients with urgent questions should contact their case manager once offices reopen.

Harvest Algoma – Closed Monday, March 16 due to weather. Regular hours resume Tuesday.

United Way Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District – Office closed Monday, March 16. Reopens Tuesday, March 17 at 9 a.m.

Canadian Red Cross (Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa offices) – Closed Monday, March 16. General inquiries: 705-759-4547.

Kumon Math and Reading Centre – Closed Monday, March 16 due to severe weather.

Group Health Centre (GHC) – All in-person appointments canceled Monday, March 16. Patients with scheduled appointments will be contacted to reschedule.

Algoma Business Computers – Closed Monday, March 16 due to weather.

Belisle Law – Closed Monday, March 16 due to inclement weather.

Sault Ste. Marie Gymnastics Club – Closed Monday, March 16, including March Break Day Camp and all programming. Regular operations resume Tuesday, March 17.

Riverside Christian Children’s Centre – Closed Monday, March 16 due to inclement weather. Normal operations expected to resume Tuesday, March 17.

Algoma District School Board (ADSB) — All facilities will be closed Monday, March 16, due to severe weather. Employees are not expected to report to work. Operations are expected to resume Tuesday, March 17.

Huron Superior Catholic District School Board – All schools and board facilities closed Monday, March 16, due to ongoing severe weather. This closure applies to all communities across the board. Employees scheduled to work are asked to remain home.

Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services – All clinics, including the Indigenous Friendship Centre Clinic in Sault Ste. Marie, as well as locations at Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon (333 River St), Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishinawbek, Atikameksheng Anishinawbek, Wawa (3 Maple Street), Chapleau Cree First Nation, and Brunswick House First Nation will be closed Monday, March 16 due to severe weather.

YMCA Sault Ste. Marie — All YMCA locations, including offsite childcare centres, will be closed Monday, March 16, due to severe weather.

Station Tower Optometry – Office closed Monday, March 16.

Dental Office of Dr. Glibota and Dr. Brescacin – Closed Monday, March 16 due to severe weather.

Suraci & Olszewski LLP – Office closed Monday, March 16 due to inclement weather.

Algoma District Services Administration Board (ADSAB) – Social services offices in Wawa, Thessalon, Blind River, Elliot Lake, and the head office in Little Rapids will be closed Monday, March 16, due to severe weather.

Our Driving School — The class scheduled for Monday, March 16, has been cancelled due to weather. The session will be made up Wednesday, March 18. The first class will now begin Tuesday, March 17.

Child Care Algoma programs and services (Sault Ste. Marie and district) – All programs closed Monday, March 16, due to heavy snow, inclement weather, and poor road conditions. Programs are expected to resume normal operations Tuesday, March 17, barring further weather issues.

CI Assante Wealth Management – Office closed Monday due to weather.

Feifel Gualazzi Personal Injury Law Firm – The office will be closed Monday, March 16, due to the weather.

Waabinong Head Start Family Services – Closed Monday; scheduled to reopen Tuesday.

Sault Community Health Centre — The centre will be closed all day. Staff will contact anyone with scheduled appointments. Residents are asked to monitor for updates as the storm continues.

Quality Cleaners and Parkway Cleaners — Both locations will be closed for the day.

Country Style — The restaurant will be closed Monday due to the weather.

Municipal Office of Huron Shores — The office will be closed to in-person services Monday, March 16, due to ongoing weather conditions. Municipal staff will continue to monitor emails and respond as soon as possible. Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather and travel advisories. Further updates will be provided if conditions change.

Tomlinson Law — The office will be closed due to inclement weather. All appointments are cancelled and will be rescheduled once staff return.

Children’s Aid Society of Algoma — All offices are closed. Emergency services remain available by calling the after-hours phone line.

Dr. Joanna Lamberts and Dr. Hayden Murray Dentistry — Offices will be closed Monday due to inclement weather.

THRIVE Child Development Centre — All services at the Sault Ste. Marie locations on Johnson Avenue and Queen Street, as well as the H.S. McLellan Preschool, are cancelled. This includes appointments, evening groups, and clinics. District offices in Elliot Lake, Blind River, Wawa, and Hornepayne are also closed.

Algoma Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic — The clinic will be closed Monday, March 16, due to inclement weather.

Pim Street Dental — The office will be closed Monday due to severe weather.

Esquire Club closed today at 7 p.m. and will be closed on Monday.

Canpar Express — The courier company will be closed Monday due to severe weather and will not be delivering or picking up parcels.

Shooters Downstairs Lounge will be closing early at 5 p.m. today due to the winter storm. The forecast calls for heavy snow from Sunday morning through Monday evening. Management urges customers to stay safe and avoid traveling in the hazardous conditions.

City of Sault Ste. Marie — Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2026, has been cancelled due to weather. Collection will be postponed to next Monday. Residents affected by the delay may place additional bags out for collection next week. Bins should be removed from the curb to assist snow-clearing operations.

Rankin Arena — Closed this evening due to severe weather. Officials will reassess tomorrow for any additional closures.

Transit – SooToday was told this afternoon that transit is still running.

SK Group on Queen Street will be closed tomorrow. 

Alzheimer Society Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District — The office will be closed Monday, March 16, due to severe weather.

Algoma Public Health — All offices are closed to the public on Monday, March 16, 2026, due to significant weather. All clinics, classes, and events scheduled for the day will be rescheduled.

Municipality of Huron Shores — Municipal snowplow operations have been temporarily suspended due to extremely poor visibility and unsafe conditions. Crews will return to the roads Monday morning once conditions allow. All municipal waste disposal sites will also be closed Monday, March 16. Residents are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel.

Sault College — The campus is closed and all in-person classes and activities are cancelled effective immediately through Monday, March 16, 2026, due to inclement weather and hazardous travel. This includes all on-campus services, offices, and offsite College operations and student placements unless otherwise specified. Normal operations are expected to resume Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
