Just minutes into the ceremony, host Conan O’Brien made a joke that seemed aimed at the former prince, although he did not reference Andrew by name.
The comedian joked: “For the first time since 2012, there are no British actors nominated.”
As reported by GB News, he then added: “A British spokesperson said: ‘Yeah, well at least we arrest our paedophiles.'”
The crowd in LA at the ceremony clapped after a brief, shocked silence.
It is believed the comment was aimed at Andrew’s arrest, even though the arrest has no connection to any allegation of sexual misconduct.
Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing, especially regarding his past friendship with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
While members of his staff have been seen since, including walking his dogs, he has not been spotted.
