ORF.at/Agenturen – According to a report, the “traffic light” parties that are currently negotiating the formation of a new government in Germany want to legalize the sale of cannabis for pleasure purposes. The coalition working group on health and care agreed on this, the Funke media group reported today.
“We are introducing the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for pleasure purposes in licensed shops,” stated the negotiators of the SPD, Greens and FDP in the result paper of the relevant working group. This controls the quality, prevents the transfer of contaminated substances and guarantees the protection of minors.
According to the report, the relevant law is to be evaluated after four years with a view to its social impact. So far, the sale of cannabis for pleasure purposes has been banned in Germany. The Greens and FDP have long been in favor of legal, regulated trade in cannabis.
Stricter rules for marketing
The three parties also want to develop models for “drug checking” and harm reduction measures, the report by the Funke newspapers continues. With “drug checking”, users can have illegally acquired drugs checked for their chemical composition and thus be warned of particularly dangerous ingredients.
At the same time, the parties want to tighten the regulations for marketing and sponsorship for alcohol, nicotine and cannabis. “We measure regulations again and again on the basis of new scientific findings and align measures to protect health”, according to the report in the paper of the “traffic light” working group.
So all that was required for finally legalising weed was Merkel’s departure? If people have known, she would be out years ago.
Oh boy, Sweden is gonna hate this
The stricter rules for marketing are overdue. Most of the younger addicts I’ve met genuinely believe that cannabis is not addictive at all, has no detrimental effects on physical and mental health, is actually the ultimate panacea and can bring world peace. There is dire need for proper education on that drug.
awesome this will be the watershed moment in Europe
Time to start learning German
Hopefully this will cause the dam to break on cannabis prohibition throughout Europe. It’s a farcical disgrace that our governments have been content with letting tens of billions of Euros (if not more) flow out of the real economy and into the black market to fuel organized criminal organizations for decades.
Berlin is going to become the new Amsterdam. I say good, as Amsterdam has gotten far too expensive.
