RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – A group of governors nationwide is urging Congress to reclaim tariff power after a Supreme Court ruling.
Gov. Josh Stein has partnered with 18 other governors today to sign a letter pushing Congress to take back its authority on tariffs.
This comes after the Supreme Court ruling that the president’s tariffs exceeded his power.
The governor has previously warned of the impacts that tariffs would have on the state’s growing industries.
“Too many North Carolina families are already feeling the squeeze of high prices, and the volatility caused by the federal administration’s tariffs is further exacerbating their pain,” said Stein. “These tariffs are hurting consumers who are now paying higher costs and farmers selling goods overseas. Congress must act to reassert its authority on tariffs to lower costs and expand economic opportunity for North Carolinians.”
Attorney General Jeff Jackson recently said that tariffs could cost NC families about $800 to $1,300 this year, adding that the state has already paid around $3.5 billion in tariffs.
