Gas production has commenced at the Quiluma field in Angola, according to a report from Yahoo Finance. This development is part of the New Gas Consortium project and represents the country’s first standalone gas project not linked to oil extraction.

Initial production from the offshore field is expected to reach 150 million standard cubic feet per day. This volume is projected to increase to 330 million standard cubic feet per day by the conclusion of 2026. The gas will undergo onshore processing before being supplied to a national liquefied natural gas facility for export.

The project is operated by Azule Energy, a joint venture equally owned by BP and Eni. Azule holds a 37.4 percent stake in the consortium. Other participants include Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, Sonangol E&P, and TotalEnergies, with Angola’s national petroleum agency acting as the concessionaire.

This start-up continues a period of activity for Azule in Angola. The company initiated production at the Agogo field in July 2025 and started the Ndungu development in February 2026. The consortium also opened a gas treatment plant in November 2025.

Beyond project execution, Azule has reported four hydrocarbon discoveries since the beginning of 2025. These include two gas finds in Angola and two discoveries in the Orange Basin offshore Namibia.

The Angola development aligns with broader upstream activity for BP. The company reported 12 discoveries globally in 2025 and the start-up of seven major projects during a similar timeframe, with five of those projects delivered ahead of schedule. These projects were located in several regions including Trinidad and Tobago, the UK North Sea, Egypt, Mauritania and Senegal, and the Gulf of America. BP aims to commence ten major projects worldwide by the end of 2027.
