Hungary and Slovakia have taken a significant step toward enhancing regional energy stability by announcing a planned pipeline that will link their refineries. Scheduled to be completed by the first half of 2027, this 127-kilometer pipeline will facilitate the transport of 1.5 million tons of fuel per year.
This development is part of efforts to address supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict involving Ukraine. Hungary and Slovakia, known for continuing to import Russian oil, have faced challenges securing pipeline supplies, as the Druzhba pipeline has experienced interruptions since January.
The new agreement was finalized in Brussels and is seen as a strategic move to diversify energy routes and safeguard fuel supplies, according to Slovakia’s Energy Ministry.
