Turkish lira in free fall after latest rate cut urged by Erdogan

  1. So as a nomad is Turkey alright to live? Like it’s no place to be a journalist or have political opinions but otherwise it’s fine?

  2. Generally speaking, Erdogan seems to be against science. He opposes the teaching of Darwinism at school and would rather have the pupils learn about jihad. Perhaps that’s an indication why he doesn’t believe in economics either. Perhaps he thinks that he can invalidate the laws of the market by a simple act of faith.

Maybe somebody should tell him about Adam Smith’s invisible hand … /s

  3. My PhD in Economics was lost in the mail. But if I understand correctly it is economics 101 that you raise rates to fight inflation and support your currency?

Or, I guess on the otherhand you cut rates if you want more inflation and to undermine your currency.

  4. Honest question for the acknowledgeable in economics and diplomacy:

How should a competent statist handle the situation if they were the leader of Turkey?

I wonder because I dislike Erdogan, but I also think at this point the situation is impossible to recover.

  5. well if the Turks are poor and destitute i guess They wont go full ottoman on their neighbours for a while.
