Shout out to the 6% of mad lads who want a SF/FG coalition.
Damn I literally just took this poll about an hour ago
All they have to do is not be completely detestable pricks, keep a low profile and they will win the next election by a landslide. I could never have pictures myself voting for SF but unfortunately I am forced to in the next election because FG and FF have proven so breathtakingly incompetent.
There has been no change in the issues with housing, homelessness or hospitals. There have been no meaningful moves to reduce the cost of living. There needs to be a change and the only problem I have is that it’s taken so long.
I’m sure things will improve for FG now that they joined tiktok
It’s actually incredible that despite the constant attacks from FG/FF they’re now roughly polling the same as both of those parties combined. They must be spooked.
Im really fed up of being in the squeezed middle, really just earn a little too much to qualify for any medical benefits or college grants but enough to qualify for loans to put myself in debt for years.
Fuck this government I’m not saying Sinn Fein would be better but im prepared to vote to find out
How are the green party getting any support with Eamon Ryan leading them
Leo’s response to anyone who chose SF in this poll “it doesn’t take very long for your balaclava to slip!”
Somewhere in a certain international pension fund office.
/did you pay off both the parties in US
/yup
/what about UK
/yup both parties
/what about Ireland
/well the thing is, it’s weird, we are looking at the figures and both parties are paid off but it looks like the people are voting for a third party, Id nearly believe there was a third party.
/ ask them where the bodies are buried.
Its basically locked in now. There is nothing, absolutely nothing that FG or FF can do to bring about sensible house prices that will have its impact felt before the next election. Entirely their own fault of course.
Completely ignoring SF, FF, Lab, or whoever you’re having yourself; it’s inconcievable to me how 1 in 5 voters think Fine Gael are appropriate for governing the country. There’s definitely a portion of that party that think of the rest of us as peasants. And I don’t mean metaphorically; *actual* peasants.
The current establishment have made two critical mistakes regarding Generations Y and Z, and it’s these two misconceptions which, when combined, make for an absolutely lethal combination:
1: They fail to understand that the vast majority of people who came of age since 2007 have *never* enjoyed the trappings of asset-based wealth wherein the prices of goods and services ever outstripping average incomes is a net positive to those individuals. That ladder was pulled up in the early to mid 2000s and nobody who turned 18 since has ever lived in a world in which macroeconomic growth meant anything other than increased prices with stagnant incomes.
2: They fail to understand that for many people (I won’t say the majority, I know there are many who don’t fall into this category, but certainly many) who were born in the aforementioned eras, without state censorship etc to shape their views, the Northern Ireland conflict isn’t nearly as simple as “IRA bad, state good”. Most of us were taught in school about the infamous 1968 civil rights march in which footage of paramilitary “police” backed by an apartheid state beat the absolute shit out of an unarmed woman for having the temerity to protest against discrimination, and as such many people regard the ensuing conflict and **all** of the violence and terrorism thereof as being the ultimate responsibility not of the terrorist groups themselves, but of the bigoted state institutions which fundamentally created the conditions in which such a movement could happily thrive.
These are two genuinely gargantuan miscalculations of Ireland’s youth which it just beggars belief that our establishment somehow still believes in. The message that “economic growth is a good thing” is total bullshit to anyone who lived through the recession and the stagflation which followed, and the message that “anything the IRA did was far worse than anything the Brits did” is total bullshit to anyone with the sense of justice that so many children of the 90s and 00s have, that if you start a fight, its entire fallout is your fault and thus 100% of the blame for The Troubles is on supremacist Unionism and *nobody* else.
It is truly shocking that despite the amount of money they spend on PR, spin, and analysis, they have failed to understand this about Irish young people. These two factors combined make more or less *everything* FFG have to say about current affairs utterly toxic to anyone under the age of 35.
It will be interesting times when they are in power here and in the north at the same time.
Fine Gael banging on about joining NATO or an EU army not the winning tactic they taught it was, huh. Who would have guessed.
Rising prices on fucking everything and they keep funneling tax payer money into the hand of land lord’s, half the time they are themselves land lord’s, so giving themselves tax payer money. Rank corruption.
A genuine question for the many SF supporters who frequent this sub. Realistically if SF do as well as polls suggest (the only way they’re forming a government is with FF. which FF would do and both parties would sell their members on ‘we have to do it to keep watch over the other party’ . Im not entertaining theories about rainbow coalitions of indys and pbp etc.. ) but if SF do as well as polled and enter that coalition with FF to form a government , how would you feel ? Considering half of SF’s media outreach has been blaming FF for current ills and many voters have turned to SF out of just seeking any alternative to ff/fg , how would it feel to cast your vote and then watch them do the ‘deal with the devil’
I’m always told “Sinn Fein aren’t magically going to fix everything” which is true, BUT the countries a mess already so I’ll take my chances with them just before having to emigrate anyways
Charlie Flanagan defending Unionist Eoghan Harris and Neal Richmond attending an Orange Order parade also a bad look for a generation with a very different view on the North to that one which had an upper middle class that idolised Britain and looked down on poor Northern nationalists.
A big fear of mine was how SF would conduct foreign policy which is my own area of expertise.
However, they’ve treated the Ukraine crisis admirably while the likes of the Trots bang on pots and seem more concerned with NATO than Russia’s recent aggression.
Every time I hear SF on the radio blasting out some stupid economic policy part of me is like, go on take the reins. Then spend the next four years blaming the last crowd that none of your stupid policies worked
They reckon they can house everyone by taxing the rich. They do realise they need builders and affordable building supplies.
Actually I’ll get annoyed if I go down this rabbit whole. SF are a joke party but they are populist so will probably win.
Hopefully SF live up to their promises.
can anyone make a video of all the times FF and FG gave the same excuses to fixing the problems of the country then a SF victory clip at the end followed by the curb your enthusiasm end credits please? Thanks
get me the smelling salts.
Not a single thing has improved under FF/FG.
It honestly comes across that they want to lose as they have no interest in fixing anything and want to hand it over to someone else and walk away. Shameful apathetic government.
On the housing they have already said that house prices will not fall while they are in charge, if this means that we have a slow trickle of new builds so that investment funds can buy everything up then that’s just fine for FF/FG.
Ireland issued 100,000 PPS numbers to non-nationals in the past year. Only a third we’re to Ukrainians. That’s about 40,000 houses needed for just one year’s worth of immigration. SF have the same open-border policy as every other party and for that reason they do not have a hope in hell of making any serious inroads into the housing crisis. The government’s plan for 2040 involves importing another 500,000 non-nationals, and SF are all in on that plan.
More immigration undermines the people they are supposed to represent by keeping rents perpetually high and depressing wages.
