The government has reaffirmed its commitment to privatise three power distribution companies within the current year in a bid to secure the next loan tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), official sources said on Wednesday.

According to sources, the bidding process for the selected distribution companies (Discos) is expected to commence by mid-April.

The privatisation of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) has been placed on the government’s priority list.

Financial advisers appointed for the transactions are working on an urgent basis to finalise the privatisation process. Sources said the advisers are expected to complete their transaction plans in the first week of April.

“The privatisation plans will be submitted to the Privatisation Board and the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation in the first week of April,” an official said.

As per the tentative timeline, the government aims to complete the privatisation of Fesco by October 2026, followed by Gepco in November and Iesco by December this year.
