The Bruins recalled forward Lukas Reichel from Providence on an emergency basis on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Reichel was obtained at the trade deadline from Vancouver for a 2026 sixth round pick and, in three games in Providence, he has been productive, scoring a goal with four assists.
The 6-foot, 170-pound German was selected with the 17th overall pick in 2020 by the Chicago Blackhawks. He has played 188 NHL games with Vancouver and Chicago with 22-37-59 totals. In the AHL, he had 49-85-134 totals in 147 games.
What exactly has precipitated the call-up for the B’s, who return home for one game against Winnipeg on Thursday before traveling to Detroit for a game with huge playoff implications against the Red Wings on Saturday, remains to be seen. Whether or not an injury is the reason isn’t yet clear. It could be that the B’s just want to take a look at him.
Morgan Geekie was hobbled with a shot off the foot on Monday in New Jersey but stayed in the game and also played against Montreal on Tuesday. He has two goals and an assist and is minus-8 in 11 games since the Olympic break. Elias Lindholm, who was injured before the break before playing for Sweden, has struggled upon his return to a Bruin uniform. In the 11 games since the break, he’s got an empty-net goal, two assists and is minus-9. He’s also been dropped from the top line to a third line with Geekie. Also, Alex Steeves and Mikey Eyssimont have been alternating in the lineup, though neither player has seized the spot for his own yet.
