MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit Memphis in five days to discuss the Memphis Safe Task Force, according to a White House official.
“President Trump will visit Memphis, Tennessee, on Monday to highlight the incredible achievements of the Memphis Safe Task Force,” a White House official said.
The visit comes months after Trump signed off on the Memphis Safe Task Force operating in the city. As the president prepares to arrive, the Memphis Safe Task Force Accountability Act is moving through both chambers of the Tennessee legislature in Nashville.
If passed, the bill would require the Shelby County District Attorney to submit a report when a plea deal is entered, when charges are lowered, and when cases are dismissed.

Memphis residents expressed a range of opinions ahead of the visit.
“That’s cool. It’s good to see someone of celebrity status come to Memphis,” said Isabella Bosse, a Memphis resident.
When asked if she would go see him in person if there was a ticketed option, she said, “Of course, of course. I would probably be front and center.”
Other residents are not so excited about the arrival.
“I am not excited about him coming to Memphis or anything else. I am not excited about him being the president,” said Alice Love, a South Memphis resident.
Another Memphian said she supports the task force despite reservations about the president.
“I like the task force, because it is getting better. I don’t have anything against the task force. But I don’t like his negative ways towards us,” said Veronica Brown.
One resident voiced opposition to the administration’s immigration policies along with the presence of the Memphis Safe Task Force.

Overall, there were many who were undecided about the arrival of the president.
“A little bit of unease, but at the same time… we have to be positive and think of the overall. So, anywhere the president would be, I would feel the same way,” said Saido Ahmed. “I’m from North Dakota, and it’s completely different [here]. And the National Guard making it safer… I didn’t even feel like it was unsafe before.”
