The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Türkiye has welcomed the decision
by Afghanistan and Pakistan to declare a ceasefire during the Eid al-Fitr
holiday, following calls from Türkiye, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said in a statement
early Wednesday, March 19, 2026, that Ankara was pleased with the positive
response from both countries to the calls for de-escalation.
He expressed hope that the ceasefire would contribute to
resolving tensions through dialogue and pave the way for lasting peace and
solidarity between the two neighboring countries.
Yılmaz added that unity between what he described as
“brotherly countries” is especially important at a time when regional
cooperation is needed more than ever.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions along the
Afghanistan-Pakistan border, where recent clashes have raised concerns about
further escalation.
