  1. Yet unfortunately the majority of the compliant Tory media will push this as distraction and promote how amazing / wonderful the Tories are for doing this all on their own and simply ignore all these calls pointing out that it’s nothing other than distraction.

Notice it’s the audience and not any of the BBC reports pointing this out as the BBC is controlled by its Tory donors

  2. UK median salary is apparently around 32k. NIC increase of 1.25%, at this salary is almost exactly £400. Its like getting £200 for passing go and immediately landing on income tax.

  3. It really does point to how shit things have gotten when people are offered £400 and instead say “it’s a profiteering, misleading, distracting pile of wank”.

  4. But…the timing aligns with the announcement that Ofgem is increasing the energy price cap, which is a regular, scheduled review

  5. If I were the Chancellor, I’d have cancelled the £400 rebate on the spot and told everyone who is angry to take it up with the QT audience members.

  6. It’s always a U-turn as well.

We need £1000 of support for the poorest. “Can’t do it”

    Outrage follows

U-turn and then people are grateful for it.

  7. its not hard to see, the entire Tory party voted against only last week, do you really think they all changed their minds in less than a week. They’ve had this plan for ages and kept it to distract from the Sue Gray report and make Boris look like someone good for once

  8. Lol. The BBC jumps on the cost of living argument yet still forces people to pay ludicrous wages of their employees.

Nearly as bad as Sky News getting Kay Burley and Beth Rigby to interview people about breaking lockdown rules.

  9. So, multiple homeowners get to double dip & since its a discount on bills, landlords will swallow it up without passing it on to their tenants.

    Classic conservative…

  10. It’s really troubling that random members of the public are (seemingly) more perceptive than large sections of the professional media. Lots of outlets have been happy to eat up the much delayed and long overdue announcement of help with energy prices, ignoring entirely the huge amount of damning evidence that no one in the heart of government seemed to think laws apply to them.

  11. This is exactly what I said to my fiancé !! Funny how they’re announcing this the day after another big scandal

  12. In that case can we have more scandals? Our street has a lot of potholes and the council doesnt have the funding to fix them
