There seems to be no limit to the hypocrisy of Republicans.

Since Trump has been in office this second time around, his administration has enacted a massive rollback of environmental regulations, targeting over 100 rules spanning climate, water, and air quality. They repealed the Clean Power Plan and Endangerment Finding, eased regulations on oil drilling and coal mining, weakened vehicle emission standards, and reduced protections against hazardous pollutants.

But suddenly they’re concerned about drinking water contamination. Oh, not so much the plethora of chemicals and pollutants that we are sure to encounter with their many rollbacks. No, it’s the “pollution” caused by abortions. This week, Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) introduced the Clean Water For All Life Act that would make it illegal to dispose of abortion or miscarriage remains down a toilet. Her press release states that this is “to protect both human dignity and America’s water systems.”

Right.

As HuffPost points out, “The bill would also ban telehealth abortion care, or the ability to prescribe abortion pills via mail, and force women to use catch kits ― which stop any fetal remains from going down the toilet after ending a pregnancy ― and bring the medical waste to their physician. The penalties include a $50,000 fine and up to five years in prison.”

Although there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that abortion pills (mifepristone and misoprostol) are harming people or the environment, Republicans are framing this as an “environmental” issue. They probably believe that this is a surefire way to succeed in their blatant attempts at a complete and total ban on abortions in this country.

Since when has the GOP given a shit about the environment?
