WASHINGTON (TNND) — Vice President J.D. Vance has not made up his mind about running for president in 2028 amid the war in Iran.

Individuals close to Vance told The Washington Post that a long conflict in the Middle East will harm whoever the 2028 GOP nominee is.

In the past, Vance was a big critic of Middle East intervention and polls have shown that the majority of Americans don’t want boots on the ground in Iran.

Last month, Israel and the U.S. conducted joint strikes on Iran due to concerns about the country having missiles.

Iran retaliated, resulting in other countries getting hit and the Pentagon has requested $200 billion from Congress to continue operations.

One individual close to Vance said that he hasn’t decided if he will run for president in 2028, specifically due to him and his wife Usha Vance expecting their fourth child this summer, according to The Washington Post.

He said that his family is his priority and won’t make a decision until they see how another child impacts their lives.

Earlier this week, former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned from his position over the Iran war.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” Kent wrote on X. “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

In response to Kent leaving, Vance said it’s okay to disagree with the president as long as officials still support his decisions.

“Whatever your view is, when the president of the United States makes a decision, it’s your job to help make that decision as effective and successful as possible,” Vance said on Wednesday.
