Helsinki – Somalia’s Ambassador to Sweden, Ambassador Abdikarim Ahmed Mohamed, has officially presented his credentials to Alexander Stubb, marking a significant step in strengthening diplomatic ties between Somalia and Finland. The development has been warmly welcomed by the Somali community in Finland, Finnish Somali Media Network (SSMV) reported.

The ambassador’s engagement in Finland is expected to improve access to essential embassy services for Somali citizens, reducing long-standing challenges many have faced when seeking consular assistance.

During a formal and well-organized ceremony, President Stubb received Ambassador Abdikarim’s credentials. This milestone represents the first time Somalia has had an ambassador formally accredited to Finland.

The Finnish Somali League known as Somaliliitto organized a reception at the Somaliliitto headquartersin order to mark the occation. Ambassador Abdikarim met with a wide range of community representatives, including traditional elders, youth leaders, scholars, local council members from Helsinki and Vantaa, and civil society representatives.

The chairman of the Somali community known as Somaliliitto, Abdulrahman Raage, described the appointment as a historic achievement.

“It is a great historical milestone for the President of Finland to receive the credentials of a Somali ambassador. Many services that were previously difficult for Somalis in this country will now become more accessible,” he said in an interview with Suomen Somalimediaverkosto.

Members of the Somali community across Finland have also expressed strong support, viewing the appointment as a meaningful step forward that benefits the entire diaspora.
