When these stories make the news (or Reddit) it tends to be about alt. right characters like Katie Hopkins or Laurence Fox. Is this just based on their unpopularity on Reddit that I see those stories or is it only really the alt right characters like this who get fines for libel?

It was dumb to even seek a trial on this, let alone jury trial. I cannot think of a more clearcut case of a false factual statement meant to harm a person’s reputation. It uses two words to stress that it is meant as a factual statement and is addressed to employers, so financial harm is not a possible consequence, it is the intended effect.

I’m really not sure what the planned defence might be. I have my suspicions that Fox simply cannot afford to settle the cases so he *has* to push on and hope against hope he wins.
