Comparison of estimated average rent levels for flats

  1. Average doesn’t capture the full picture here. London has a higher average but it’s a much healthier market than Dublin. Much more choice and (generally) of a higher standard. There are some very nice deals to be had there.

  2. You could keep apartments in both Rome and Brussels, for the craic, for the same price as an apartment in Dublin plus a few pints of a Friday.

  3. It’d be interesting to see this weighted against the stock of apartments in each city. I would think that there are a higher percentage of houses compared to other countries.

  4. I’ve moved to Manchester last month due to a new job and it really is incredible how much of a ride we’re being taken for in Dublin.

I couldn’t dream of renting my own place in Dublin but I went on two remote viewings in Manchester and organized a lovely apartment on the second call for a price that would be less than half of what I’d pay in Dublin.

At this point I would recommend any young person not tied down to get out of Ireland for awhile. It’s scary but so damn worth it.

  5. Tokyo is not as expensive as Dublin, its a load of bollocks.

What they have is some very high end stuff that basically doesn’t exist in Dublin.

  6. This isn’t even a fair comparison of the actual standard and build quality of apartments – Irish apartments are generally built to a much worse standard than a lot of the others out there. We know this.

  7. Tokyo, New York, London I get. Millions of people, limited space, centers of economic power and prestige. Can the same be said about Dublin?
