Kurds across Syria and Turkey marked Nowruz with bonfires, dancing and large gatherings in Damascus, Afrin and Diyarbakir. In Syria, this year’s celebrations followed a government decree formally recognizing the festival and restoring rights to Kurdish citizens. Crowds waved flags, lit fires and celebrated in the streets, while some also voiced political demands.
