DAYTON, Ohio (WLIO) — The Marion Local Flyers came up just short in a heartbreaker against Berlin Hiland Hawks in the Division VI state championship at UD Arena.
After four quarters weren’t enough to decide it, the game headed to overtime tied at 41.
In the first overtime, Marion Local trailed by five before Grant Kremer knocked down a clutch three to cut the deficit. Moments later, with 20 seconds left and the Flyers down three, Kremer delivered again, burying another triple to tie the game at 48 and force a second overtime.
In double overtime, Brayden Mescher gave Marion Local a brief lead with a strong finish inside. However, Berlin Hiland responded at the free-throw line to go back in front.
The Flyers had one final opportunity in the closing seconds, but the potential game-tying shot fell short.
Marion Local falls 54-51 in double overtime, finishing as Division VI state runner-up for the second straight season.
