Grand Duchess Maria Teresa celebrates her 70th birthday on Sunday, marking a milestone moment for the Luxembourg royal family.

A milestone birthday is being celebrated at the Grand Ducal Palace this Sunday, as Grand Duchess Maria Teresa turns 70.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was born on 22 March 1956 in Havana, Cuba. She studied political science in Switzerland, where she met Grand Duke Henri.

The couple married in 1981 and have five children – four sons and one daughter: Prince Guillaume (born 1981), the current Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Prince Félix (born 1984), Prince Louis (born 1986), Princess Alexandra (born 1991), and Prince Sébastien (born 1992).

On 7 October 2000, then Hereditary Grand Duke Henri became Grand Duke of Luxembourg, at which point Maria Teresa assumed the title of Grand Duchess.

In addition to her five children, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has nine grandchildren: Prince Charles (born 10 May 2020) and Prince François (born 27 March 2023); Princess Amalia (born 15 June 2014), Prince Liam (born 28 November 2016), and Prince Balthazar (born 7 January 2018); Prince Gabriel (born 12 March 2006) and Prince Noah (born 21 September 2007); as well as Victoire (born 14 May 2024) and Hélie (born 17 October 2025).
