No evidence Boris Johnson was serial Covid rule-breaker, Met Police chief says

  1. Is anyone else looking at this and thinking “The cover-up is worse than the crime?”

Like, he clearly broke the rules, but did so in the company of half of the Civil Service and, while he clearly thinks himself above the law, you can kind of understand what he did – working in an environment that must have seemed normal after a while, because Downing Street kept working in person even after many other offices were forced to work remotely. It makes him weak-willed, arrogant, incompetent (it’s terrible disaster planning), etc., but on a human scale. Ultimately, it’s crap, but it’s not so crap that people shouldn’t be allowed to vote for him.

However: when the police have either volunteered to deny basic evidence in order to preserve a particular politician in power, or have been ordered to do so, that just seems to be a repudiation of our system of government.

  2. The whole world has been told and shown evidence of him knowing about parties and being at multiple. It has been reported to the world that even the SG Report chose to not look at all evidence. We’ve also had it reported about questionable MET behaviour linked to these parties and now they want to use this soundbite?

Even if you’re in denial you’d be aware you’re being dishonest at this point.

  3. > A source at the @metpoliceuk says the reason why junior Downing Street staff got fined, while senior figures didn’t is that the senior people failed to answer the questionnaire.

Why did the Met take so long to start their investigation? [According to the Good Law Project](https://goodlawproject.org/news/met-will-investigate/):

    > First they say they relied on the Government’s assurances that no rules had been broken.

    > Then they say there would have been no point in interviewing No 10 staff about the parties because they would have refused to answer questions that exposed them to a risk of prosecution.

So next time you’re interviewed under caution, remember to tell police “no laws were broken” and that their investigation cannot proceed if you refuse to answer questions. Met logic.

  4. Imagine being a rank and file member of the Conservative Party and realising your membership fees contribute towards bribes to get your leader out of the shit.

  5. r/nottheonion stuff.

No evidence he was a serial rule breaker apart from the wealth of testimony, photographic and recorded evidence.

  6. Literally has a knife in his hands, covered in blood and a confession on video, but he didn’t stab anybody.

  7. Just like there was no evidence of Russian interference in UK politics, because they didn’t look.

If you don’t look for evidence, you won’t find it.

  8. Well we don’t trust the met police now either since they have already covered stuff up… the county has gone to shit.. once people loose trust that’s it!

  10. The MET absolutely hammering those nails in their own coffin – how do they think this will be seen by the public?

“Oh yes – the guys who took their word for it, refused to investigate, refused to do anything beyond giving them a questionnaire (when you or I would have an 8hr interrogation including some blatantly illegal questioning, manipulation tactics and assurances that they will “get” us) – and now that there are *literal photographs* which demonstrate that not only was BoJo there, he outright lied about it *over and over again* to the house, the media and the public.

*Those* guys say the evidence we’ve all seen isn’t evidence at all. So everything’s fine and we should get back to normal”.

Oh and whilst you’re doing that Boris is literally changing the rules to say you don’t have to resign if you lie, he gets to decide if you have, and also he can’t be held accountable in the event that it is determined he had.

Why would anyone listen to the MET full stop? Anyone who gets stopped or arrested should just “assure the MET no crimes have been committed”, answer no questions, and demand to be released without charge – if it isn’t one rule for them and another for the rest of us, that should be 100% fine, and they can’t complain.

Good direction for the legal & justice system in this country to take – at least the rest of us will start getting equal treatment.

  11. I literally have to check and see which headlines are satire and which are real on this topic.

I honestly was expecting this to be newsthump or similar.

  12. The MET police is 100% compromised by corruption and the government is trying to become a fascist party.

  13. That’s interesting, I’ve not seen any evidence the met chief isn’t a lying, conniving, self-serving, corrupt, sack of shit, noncey, fucking cunt.

  14. Literally top down corruption in the UK

Anyone else just feel exhausted from constantly being angry… why do we have to have this?

The Brexit vote really felt like it was the turning point to awfulness nothing has been good since

  15. Absence of evidence does not mean he did not break the rules many more times. The Downing Street shredders will have been working overtime and people will have been given brand new laptops and phones for no reason though.

  16. When law enforcement spends its energy protecting the government from the revelations of the government’s own criminal behavior, it is fast approaching regime change … it could go either way… remain UK or do a Fascist Kingdom , so just a simple FK

  17. Really and Derek Bentley didn’t kill anyone yet he was still hanged for the crime and this chief is saying a person who has been fucking photographed breaking said fucking rules isn’t evidence enough.

Can someone go have a long abc 123 conversation with the chief as i don’t think he fucking understands what the word evidence means.

  18. Aside from the photographs, witness testimonial, questionnaires, pattern of continual lying and the police guards assigned to the actual events in question there just isn’t any evidence 🙁
