Since many people in Ireland still don’t see Cannabis as the medicine that it is.

  1. Many many people do, but we also know its not the fountain of life and won’t cure you, but will help symptoms.

  2. Everyone have their tin foil hats on., good :

Big PARMA / MERCK don’t want you to have this EASILY grown wonder DRUG.

  3. I find a lot of people making these points just want cannabis legalised for recreational use. I do think it has medicinal uses but should be highly regulated. Here’s why:

Up to 64% of individuals who have experienced a first episode of psychosis (FEP) have used cannabis, and 30% of these have a cannabis use disorder. We don’t fully know the health risks of cannabis use long term although heavy use could be easily correlated with cognitive decline. Also there have been several studies to suggest that cannabis has a detrimental effect on young brains. Not to say that it can’t be regulated like alcohol, but to say that it’s a completely harmless organic medical herb is quite frankly, utter bollocks.

  4. Obviously legalization would greatly improve many peoples lives, I’m all for that. But some of my friends are becoming so dependent on weed it’s ruining theirs. Wasting all their money, can’t play sports like they used too, becoming lethargic as fuck. It’s really sad to see, but that’s just my experience

  5. I question carting out some cancer or parkinsons patient to justify legalization. Smoking weed makes you feel good. People like getting high.

Medicinal weed is a strong case but its not the real reason.

  6. Have been using THC to help with Anxiety & to aid Sleep for a couple of years, & I honestly just enjoy it recreationally too, I prefer it to drinking I take regular breaks to keep tolerance down too, obviously it should be legalised medicinally across the board for lots of conditions, it should be for recreational use too, I harm nobody being under the influence of it in my own home, it’s a disgrace in 2022 I’d still be seen as a criminal by Gardai, It’ll be legal all over Europe in the next 10 years or so but Ireland is so backwards it’ll be a long long time.

  7. On a lower note I’m only 24 but have been taking CBD drops to deal with PTSD and man what an improvement in my life. Far less shaky and just a general mellow and calm feeling. Public perception is slowly beginning to see the benefits and I’m proud

  8. Definitely should be made legal, but I think more education needs to be put in place. As other posters as mentioned, there are negatives to recreational use which would need to be addressed. Dependancy is a real thing which would need to be addressed and only if it’s legalized can that real solid unbiased information come out. Can daily use be bad for you? Yes. Can some people use it daily and see positive results? Yes. How does one identify if it’s having a negative result for a specific user, how does one seek help. But the first step is legalization anyway since people can purchase and missuse cannabis regardless of law.

I just hate seeing cannabis being promoted as some problem free cure to everything. It’s not.

  9. There are definitely good reasons to legalize cannabis but I would wary of anyone who describes it as a panacea for all their ills.

That being said this man seems to benefit from it greatly. Not an expert by he doesn’t seem to have the typical tremor associated with PD, but looks like he’s having dystonias which can be a rarer symptom, or is often a side of effect of Parkinson’s medications. It could be the cannabis is helping to relax or at least modulate the abnormal movements that can come with Parkinson’s treatments, but I don’t know how much it would do on its own.

Would be happy for it to be legalized myself, but should be regulated and not promoted as a medicine without good evidence. Alcohol can be a great treatment for essential tremor, but probably not a fantastic medication from some people.

  10. I fully appreciate that cannabis can be used medicinally and agree with the legalization for use in a medical setting.

However, I’ve spent four years working on a psychiatric ward in Dublin, and at least 50% of our admissions for people who are acutely psychotic are related to cannabis use. I was fully for total legalization until I saw young men developing schizophrenia from cannabis dependence. People with chronic psychotic illnesses cost the state millions in medications, hospital admissions and support services, and a lot of it could be avoided if people weren’t using cannabis. Over the pandemic the number of people using cannabis and becoming unwell soared.

I don’t know what the solution is here, but I don’t think complete legalization is the answer. Just my two cents.

  11. Strawman, no one who has a problem with medical marijuana. It’s not a valid argument for overall legalisation though

  12. I’m in my mid 30s, living in Canada, and had a surgery in October 2021. The doctor gave me (limited) percocet (Oxy) to manage pain during recovery. Additionally, as part of my surgery, I had to sleep on my back for 6 weeks, no exceptions, something I cannot normally do comfortably.

Thankfully, living in a country where weed is completely legal, both medically and recreationally, I was able to (before surgery) call into one of the many weed shops within a few minutes walk from my front door and buy edibles.

I switched from percocet to edibles on day 3 of recovery. Taking weed instead of percocet had the following effects:

    1. It helped me sleep better than I had in days, in an uncomfortable position, and that continued for weeks, until I was signed off to sleep on my side again. Recovery from any illness or surgery is hard enough, it’s harder if you can’t sleep.

    2. It managed my pain effectively. Because edibles here are limited to how much THC can be sold per packet, the amount you’re consuming is often nicely dosed out into small, very manageable amounts, meaning you can start light and top up as needed. Additionally, as part of my recovery I absolutely was not allowed to smoke in any way, shape or form, due to risk of necrosis. Having fully recreational legal weed here meant that I could literally go and buy it in whatever form I wanted; chocolates, gummies, soft drinks, oil to put in drinks, capsules.

    3. It got me off the percocet. Anyone who has watched the documentary “The Crime of the Century” about Oxycontin in the US and how it was marketed for pain, to ordinary people (not just “criminals and druggos”), or has watched the tv show Dopesick (covering similar issues), will understand just how harrowing it is that people end up cripplingly addicted to opioid painkillers. Often people that were simply given a prescription to manage pain.

    4. I was able to poop like a normal human being. A lot of people don’t realize that opioid painkillers often block you up. Really bad. Like you won’t be able to poop for a week or two kind of bad. This is not good for you. It makes you feel awful, when your body is fighting to heal you, that’s the last added discomfort that you need. Taking percocet for only 2 days and then moving to edibles on the third, I did not have this problem.

And I’m lucky I had this choice. No jumping through hoops to get a doctor to agree. No buying shit off the black market and ending up either way too high with homemade edibles that are unpredictable, or having to smoke it. No barriers to access; literally, in Ontario if you can’t get to a weed store in person, you can order it from the *government* website for same or next day delivery in most cases. Something that I’m sure matters a lot to those with disabilities that may limit their ability to leave the house or move around, or people who are just feeling otherwise really fucking unwell and can’t or don’t want to have to venture out.

And yet, somehow, Canada has not gone up in flames. People still go to work, do their jobs, and live their lives, almost like weed isn’t some big evil thing like other parts of the world would have you believe.

  13. Watch the whole original video for greater context and impact. It’s not some magic cureall but for some it can honestly make a drastic difference in their quality of life, indeed it can be the difference between a life you want to continue or suffering you want to end – why the hell should anyone stand in the way of that?

  14. Medical cannabis use is something that can help a lot. I know people in canada who use it for MS, ptsd, migraines and nightmares(probably ptsd related)

That said, I see a lot of people who are pro weed promoting it as the next cureall. It will do a lot and helps a lot of specific people in specific situations but like all things its not perfect. We need to remember it can help people or make people worse. For some people it can induse anxiety or flare up ptsd. As well as other health risks like cancer or psychosis.

I think it should be legalised regardless of risk, people are going to smoke it anyway we may as well get the tax money from it. That tax money can be used to fund drug rehab programs and issues that may arise from long term weed use.

  15. Is this CBD/THC or a mix and is it a strong dose? Just asking cause I know someone with Parkinson’s would like to know more?

  16. I work with cannabis industry leaders, remotely, and the lack of awareness and education on it for the average joe is astounding. It’s a huge barrier into it being accepted socially after the taboo placed around it for so many decades. Whereas here in Ireland, its been socially acceptable for decades to get so shit faced on booze and not remember anything that we just turn a blind eye to it now, says a lot about us as a society.

  17. I use cannabis for my sciatica and back pain. Grow a single plant every 3 months, does the job. Inhale using a device that heats it to boiling, not burning, so no lung cancer worries and no tobacco addiction. Im breaking the law unfortunately and one day I may have to serve time in prison for unburdening the HSE from my requirements and being a productive member of society instead of a drain on resources. I don’t approve of breaking the law, but in this case thew law is similar to that which applied to the illegality of homosexuality; it is anachronistic, cruel, wrong, shortsighted, self defeating, anti-democratic and classist.

  18. Not a citizen but I can attest to Cannabis medicinal affects. I have terrible anxiety and depression. I used to be a complete asshole. Like angry all the time and just rude.

But ever since I’ve begun occasionally hitting a weed pen, I’m much calmer and more openminded. It’s not a miracle cure but it has helped my personality and I genuinely do not want to be mean anymore.

I think the periods of high where I kind of go into myself have helped me reflect on my actions and I’ve learned to not be a complete menace.

  19. It should definitely be allowed for medical use it can do amazing things for some people but man the amount of people I know that turned into literally dopes smoking the shite everyday.

  20. I know well, so many people think god created everything we see around us, but what the devil made that one plant because the government said its bad 100 years ago when everyone was a alcoholic on drink/whiskey..

Why would God create this plant the way he did if he didn’t want us to use it..

like other “drugs” i don’t believe canna is a drug, but for the sake of the argument other drugs need manufacturing and ingredients etc..

Cannabis is just a plant that will grow no matter what you do to it..

its like to come on Irish government im not respecting these laws and i plan to fight my next court visit with in every way possible but i guarantee i wont be paying any fines and funding this bullshit war you wage against the Irish people ..

  21. RN AND PHYSIO here in Florida with a specialty in neurological illness/ injury. I can’t tell you how many of my patients have benefitted greatly from THC use. It has helped so much with anxiety, PTSD, seizure control, pain, tremors, and has vastly improved the quality of life for many. I’m hoping that federal laws are ultimately changed here so that more can benefit from its use. I’m such an advocate for legalization!

    Be well! C

  22. As someone who can get cannabis legally in my state, I find that still people have that belief that it is all bad (I am not saying it doesn’t lead to other more harmful drugs) yet these same people will have no problem with drink driving, or drinking large amounts or even smoking.

I suffered with depression and other health issues prior and some of the medication (for Psoriasis) made me literally want to kill my SO, I rang the dr straight away and needed to be taken off it and needed meds for that. Since moving away, and being able to have access to these things (I don’t take them often) but being able to have that opportunity to have a different avenue to use, I have found it much better than some of the meds given to me.

Regulate it and legalise it, but allow people to make their own choices. Much like they do with Drinking and smoking.

This is what I have found, and I am not saying my experience is what everyone has had.

  23. I really couldn’t care if we’d get legalised for the general public since I don’t smoke but for the love of god why isn’t it approved for medical use here?

  24. I’m prescribed medical cannabis now up in the North, it’s legal medically in UK since 2018. There’s quite a few private clinics now. All you really need to have done is to have tried some form of previous medication for the symptoms you have. Quick consultation and approval process.

I get 60g of flower delivered by DPD a month legally for anxiety in several 10g pots with a written script label on them , it’s on my medical records if I ever get stopped.

There’s something very nice and comforting about being able to use this flower and know the law is on my side now. I’m also being prescribed proper strains that I’d choose rather than being giving “Dawg”, a day time sativa (white widow) and an indica(some Hindu Kush)

It’s still not a perfect system by any means, some strains run out of stock and you get a substitute, there can be the odd minor delays with the cannabis pharmacy shipping it and to change strain it involves book to talk to the doctor again but it’s a hella lot better than meeting some dude in their car or house !

I hope you can at least get something like this in the Republic soon.

  25. Somehow it was okay to hold my wife for 6 hours on an emergency line in the hospital with a strong stomach ache to just get her blood sample and pressure, say that she has no immediate life threat and give her prescriptions on Solpadeine, which has Codeine – which is opiate. Based on no actual analysis.

But cannabis is bad and evil, sure sure.

  26. My father passed from Parkinson’s a few years back and I tried several times to get him to try a bit of weed to manage it. Of course being the old school farmer that he was he refused as it was illegal. It breaks my fuckimg heart to see videos like this and know he could have had some kind of relief if it wasn’t for the short sighted pricks we have in power in this country.

  27. But what about our moral purity?

If we let sick people use drugs that help them, where does the slippery slope stop? Allowing people use marijuana because they enjoy it???

This might upset the Fine Fail elders. It might upset the parents of some FG TDs. All because some sick people want to feel better, all because some other people want to be allowed use marijuana simply because they want to be allowed do something they enjoy, at home, interfering with absolutely nobody.

No no no. Our moral purity has been safely looked after by the Mammys of FG TDs and elderly FFers for as long as anyone can remember. We don’t want to lose our virtuous position, let’s stick to drinking alcohol until we can’t stand properly, throw our guts on the ground, call them lads across the way cunts, throw up again on the street, start a fight and wake up with a raging hangover having forgotten how we got home. It’s what Dev would have wanted.
