This is going to happen to then more and more. Companies like Aercap have loads of planes leased to Russian airlines like Aeroflot. The Russian government has prevented them from being returned but those planes are effectively confined to Russian now. As they leave Russia and russian controlled/aligned territory they will simply be seized by their owners.
It’s also going to be a nightmare for the Russian aviation industry once all this is over. Not being able to access the leasing markets will make them completely unable to compete.
Irish companies own a massive amount of all the planes in the world. Aircraft leasing is a huge industry here.
Aercap alone now about 50% of the aviation rental market. So this will happen more often.
Could some of the companies not go bankrupt with no access to the planes and no income from rental?
