Non-Estonian here, I read an article about how a quarter of Estonian citizens don’t believe Russia is responsible for the war in Ukraine. How much of those belong to the large Russian community in Estonia? I’d be surprised if a sizable group of ethnic Estonians believed that Russia isn’t responsible for the war.

Edit: Screwed up the title. I meant to say, “Would the quarter of citizens of Estonia who believe Russia is not behind the war” be largely ethnic Russians?”. One isn’t able to edit title comments of a reddit post once you press post. Apologies for any confusion.

  1. Personally have a family member that’s a big populist and “patriot” who believes the war was the fault of NATO expansion and Russia is just defending itself.

So yes I can believe that there are that many people thinking it’s not an invasion.

  2. If you went and asked people what they mean by it then my guess would be something along the lines:

Russia: If you try stuff in Ukrain then we will take power by force.

West: Lets do stuff in Ukrain.

    Russia: Time to invade, boys.

West: WOW, I am outraged that you did what you told us you would do.

25% of estonians: Russia literally did what they told they would do. That’s what bigger powers do when they can’t get stuff done politically in smaller countries.

**Then this gets translated as (for outrage farming)**

25% of estonians: Russia has the right to invade other countries

While the reality is that only a fringe % of people belive the latter and even those most likely have their reasons such as “Ukrain’s army was shelling civilians in the Donbass region”.

I think a more honest coverage would be that 25% of estonians think Russia did what bigger powers almost always do in such situations.

But trying to claim that every 4th person in Estonia is thumping their chest and saying Russia is not at fault it legit retarded outrage farming for political points. It’s just dumb oversimplification.

  3. I’d say that these people have some kind of mental disability regardless of their ethnicity if they genuinely believe that Russia is, somehow, not the culprit here.

  4. 90% Russians
5% Estonians inside the Russian “bubble” (think grandmas and Narvans)
5% Retards who get their views and news from Tucker Carlson and other American rightists.

  5. >How much of those belong to the large Russian community in Estonia?

Pretty much everyone except for a few Estonian conspiracy theorists or whatnot.
