The popup store is located in the Leysstraat, off the Meir, at Antwerp’s commercial heart. It will only stay open for four days.
‘Shoppers’ included many Dutch nationals, who made the trip to Antwerp especially.
You can’t buy anything at the store right away but can use a QR code to order products later on. Not everybody in the lengthy queue was aware of this nicety.
Shein that offers cheap and trendy fashion markets its products via TikTok and Instagram, two channels popular among the young. The company is quick to respond to new trends offering what is labelled fast-fast-fashion. Last year Shein was accused of human slavery.
Most of those clothes are crap anyway so you’re spending more money in the end.
Just when you thought nothing worse than Primark could exist they come up with Shein. Stupid sheeple.
so it’s a brick and mortar shop to buy stuff online
What the actual fuck?
The ultimate proof that tiktokers are dumb.
Marginalen not realising the need for sustainability.
Fast fashion is absolute trash. Just the amount of water required to produce a single pair of jeans is mind-boggling, the pollution, the slave labor, and the waste are just cherries on top.
Well that’s fucked up
They misspelled Shite
The worshippers queuing up to enter yet another temple of mindless consumption!
Remembers me these crazy people standing in a line and pushing each other just to be first in the Primark shop ^^ . So people are actually standing in the line and coming even from the netherlands to be first in a shop that does not even have any physical products in it lol what has this world become 😀
tbh, I like this idea and it’s what other stores have done anyway in the past. You go to a krefel to look at TVs, you pick one and they order it for you. And they either deliver it at your home or at the store you ordered it. But you don’t just wanna buy one online. You want to physically hold or see it before you order. They used to have everything in stock, but no longer.
Coolblue did this too, an online store that opens a showroom and pickup point.
I too would like to see and hold and investigate some things before I buy them online. So I think this is a smart thing for shops to do. I would love to try and fit some clothes in a store and then order them online once I know my size. It’s what I did with my dockers pants. I once bought them in a store years ago after trying a dozen sizes to get the right combo. Since then I’ve just bought them on their site. This system leads to almost no return sending of stuff you ordered that didn’t fit.
The same with my daily carry backpack, I wanted to check it before buying it so I could make sure everything fits inside it. So I went to the AS adventure where I found it on their site. But they didn’t have it in stock. So I could order it and have it arrive in the store… but I would have had to pay for it once it arrived. So no testing, looking, and rejecting it if it wasn’t what I wanted.
edit: for good measure, yes fast fashion is bad. I don’t think this needs saying.
Tiktok moment
There was a man in the reportage talking about how inventive it is to be able to see clothes before you buy them, because normally, you can’t. Like wtf, did he never hear about clothing stores before?
NOOOOO CHILD LABOR IS BAD! WE SHOULD DO SO- omg guys look 5 euro for a new pair!!!

Anyone recall that show where someone opened up a Ebay shop where you couldn’t actually buy anything they had in the store but could order everything off ebay? lol
I didnt know what shein was so i took a look at the site. I feel im more at risk of a virus on their site then on some “wierd corner of the internet” sites. Straight up looks like aliexpress
European hypocrisy at it’s finest?
All that talk of fair practices and labor laws. Not in my backyard. But elsewhere? Sure thing!

Mannen, ik zeg dees op de best mogelijke manier eh: dees is achterlijk en Shein zou moeten verbannen worden uit de Belgische markt
Sluit die boel maar weer direct, wa n vuile winkelketen/online winkel
Ah giving comments with slave made smartphones on slave made clothes.
Caught an episode of Kassa on NOS by accident this week, which was about Shein. Happy to hear that the EU is working already against such fast fashion.
Holy Sheite. So you can’t buy anything in the store, you have to scan a qr code and buy online anyway. And to add insult to injury, the lighting in the store is shitgreen so you don’t get a proper representation as to what the colors of the articles look like, you’re better off looking at the pictures online after you scanned the qr code anyway.
