QUINCY (WGEM) – The campus of one Quincy Catholic elementary school is growing.
St. Francis Solanus Catholic School has acquired two properties along the 1700 block of Oak Street to develop additional green space and playground for outdoor learning and play.
Officials at St. Francis said children have had to play in the street and parking lot in the past.
They said parents have decided to send their kids to other schools due to the lack of green space, so they started plans to grow the campus.
“A lot of parents are going to be really happy about not having so many holes in their pants after playing on the concrete and asphalt all these years but now, they’ll have to deal with some grass stains on their pants, but I think it’s something that everybody is really excited about. For that opportunity, for outside growth for our children, as well as physical education, I think is such an important aspect for the life and the growth of our kids,” said the Rev. Steven Arisman of the St. Francis Solanus Roman Catholic Parish.
School officials said work on the school’s new green space and playground should be completed by the start of school next year.
