AN INCREDIBLE ski trip saw 40 students from Whitworth Community High School take to the slopes in Kitzbühel in Austria.
A few had skied before at The Hill – home of Ski Rossendale, but they found skiing on snow a completely different experience.
The students were split into four ability groups for lessons and, once they had mastered some skills, they got to try skiing down the various graded slopes.
Martha Barry and Ruby Wilson, both 13, had experience of skiing on the dry ski slope and Martha still attends The Hill.
Ruby said: “I love skiing. it is such fun. I liked the speed you got on the snow and I went down a black run, which is the hardest.
“There is a big difference to skiing on snow to the mats, it is much more fun.”
Martha said she enjoyed spending time with her friends and they all has a good laugh; she also admitted to falling over a few times.
When high winds closed gondolas, staff adapted the plans, so the students got to use three different resorts.
The students also watched an ice hockey match, enjoyed a thermal indoor and outdoor pool and visited the town.
Arabella Gregory, 13, said: “I couldn’t ski before I went on the trip and I was kind of scared the first time I had to go down the hill, but I got to the bottom.”
They said they found the rope lift very tricky, but they enjoyed the chair lifts, especially as the seats were heated.
The students were complimented by locals for their excellent behaviour.
