Trans-Canada Highway closing 1 hour in Rogers Pass for avalanche work

It may be spring, but Parks Canada will shut the Trans-Canada Highway between Revelstoke and Golden again for an hour of avalanche control Wednesday afternoon.
From 1 to 2 p.m. March 25, the federal agency will be conducting critical work to safely trigger snowslides off adjacent mountain slopes while Highway 1 is closed to all traffic through Rogers Pass.
This notice from DriveBC follows a prolonged avalanche closure last week that ended up extending from Tuesday to end of Friday, March 17 to 20, due to adverse weather.

While winter has finished, Parks Canada’s winter permit system for backcountry users in Rogers Pass continues into April, and avalanche control could run as far as into May, if necessary.
According to Avalanche Canada bulletins, snowslide danger in high elevations of Glacier National Park hangs at considerable risk level, particularly as strong winds form a reactive storm slab.
It’s advised to avoid wind-loaded terrain in the backcountry, though dangerous conditions are projected to reduce leading up to the weekend.
Parks Canada closed all its winter restricted areas in Rogers Pass on Tuesday, March 24, but they all remain open Wednesday outside the highway closure.
