The results of a gerrymandered local council election in Northern Ireland in the 1920’s.

  1. Unionism claiming to be democratic is an obscenity. Founded on the anti democratic terrorism of the UVF and maintained through this and the terrorist B specials. Shared island is a surrender by weak minded Irish nationalism and west Brits to this.

EDIT: This is breaking news to some pontificators here! Keep going lads, ye might find the truth about yourselves some time soon.

EDIT 2: I wish Reddit would post downvoters. They’re downvoting the truth.

  2. When the north was created both fermanagh and Tyrone swore allegiance to the Dail, and refused to recognize the fasly created northern state, the north was born out of gerrymandering, most of the six counties where nationalist, 4 of the 6 I believe, the only 2 unionist majority counties being antrim and down, but they couldn’t create a 2 County state so they gerrymandered to make the new state viable by size, it originally was to include all 9 ulster counties but that was quickly changed because that would have meant a nationalist majority.

  3. You have to hand it to those boys in Lurgan, that’s an insanely brilliant bit of crookery

  4. The note on the bottom seems off. The note is claiming it was only 551 votes to secure every council seat. But that’s not what the table says. It was a population of 551 per seat representing the unionists on the council. The table shows 5449 is the population of the nationalists and they have no seat but the note says it was votes. It’s mixing up population and votes which are not equal. Also 551 for each of the 15 seats is 8,265. So the unionist population does out number the nationalist but it should be an 11-6 split not 15-0.
