  1. So far

    * Lowest income households to get one-off payment of £650^*
    * Households to get £400 for energy bills as loan scheme scrapped
    * Eight million pensioners to get extra £300

^* Meanwhile, eight million households on means-tested benefits will get £650 paid directly into their bank accounts in two lump sums – one in July, the other this autumn.

  2. Oh no! Poor old Boris is being criticised, time to do the fucking right thing.

The grants aren’t enough. Peoples electricity bills have risen by over the amount they are offering so hey guess what? You can barely live for a month now before going back to the poverty line. Thanks Boris.

  3. •£650 one-off payment to eight million of the lowest-income households

    • Eight million pensioners who get winter fuel payment to also get a £300 payment

    • £150 extra payment for people on disability benefits

    • Energy bill rebate scheme to double to £400 and will not have to be repaid

Yay…. Another round of fucking for actual prosperous people.

    Cheers Rishi, you twat.

  4. Perfectly timed distraction for partygate / Grey report, notice how this is announced as soon as the Sue Grey report is handed to no.10

They must be so confident that their compliant media will manage to get the general public to ignore the blatantly obvious timing for distraction, it’s fucking disgusting and yet they will yet again get away with it all while the rabid pro Tory press such as the DM and Express will rant on about how fucking wonderful and how generous the Tories are while helping distract from all the lawbreaking and corruption

  5. Cool I guess; I mean, I’ll take the money if I get it but still will never consider voting for these scumbags and continue to demand their removal from power since they are corrupt and useless.

So anyway, has Boris resigned over ‘partygate’ yet? When will he step down? I refuse to ‘move on’, keep the pressure on.

  6. While yes this might help take some (no where near enough) pressure off of some people they need to realise utilities aren’t the only thing increasing in price.
    Food is shooting up.
    Petrol has gone sky high.
    Rents have gone up.
Everything else has gone up in price

  7. If I read this correctly

8 million households in the UK now need help paying basic bills

ONS says that there are 27 million households roughly

After all these years of Tory idiocy .. 29% of households in the UK need financial assistance to pay utility bills

is this the brexit dividend or leveling up that delivered this much winning ?

  8. In shocking news, the government reluctantly finally do what is actually expected of them, which is do what they’re told to do, by the public they claim to represent an serve. They’re not our rulers, they work for us, and tax money is not their money, it’s ours.

  9. It’s like black Friday deals, artificially raise the price first (£800) then say there is a discount (£400).

  10. Sunak has been waffling on this that much that I’m 99% sure it would never have been allowed had the Sue Gray report not just been released yesterday. More efforts from BoJo and Co. to take the attention away from their corruption and paint themselves as the good guys. That being said, this was desperately needed for many struggling households so it was a welcome announcement.

  11. For everyone complaining that the opposition aren’t offering enough alternatives to the govt’s policies, now you see why. If they seem popular, Boris will steal them and tell you it’s his idea.

  12. As a single person moving into their first home next month, is this going to make a difference to me? Or is it for lower income?

  13. So pensioners get additional payment, so do low earners. I feel the middle people always get the hard stick, I make the UK national average and was not furloughed. I make too much for any financial support and too little to be comfortable.

I feel it is just tactical as pensioners will just be pleased and will back Conservatives at the next election. The 8 million households will also back Boris without understanding the context. It’s all tactical, similar to how bus funding the other month was mainly distributed to regions that were losing popularity in polls

  14. Already seen people lauding this on socials as dishy rishi to the rescue again. Make no mistake, the furlough scheme and this are necessities, not a gift, to stop the uk falling flat on its face and having an apocalyptic economic situation. Not only that, but this government reluctantly held off on it and have only dropped this necessity as some sort of vanity project.

  15. I see they found that magic money tree again. They really must try and stop losing that thing.

  16. My monthly energy bill has gone from £115 per month to just under £300 and this is before the October cap increase.

Stick the £400 up your arse Rishi.

  17. If the energy companies are making so much more money that they can be taxed to fund this, why is there talks of letting them raise the price cap again later this year?

I live alone in a 1 bed flat and work full time, if the energy bill goes up further in October, I’ll probably struggle to pay all my bills.

My energy bill has already gone up a huge amount compared to last year. I’ve gone from £1.50-2.50 electric most days (depending on if I used washer/dryer/heating) to now using £3.50-5 most days.

Come next winter I’m going to have to suffer in a cold flat because I won’t be able to afford my heating. No idea how anyone in a similar situation that also has kids or other dependencies is going to cope.

  18. Wow. So my bills go up around £1200 a year and we get £400. I’m not ungrateful but, fuck off. I suppose the so called windfall tax will be a lot greater than the amount of money we’ve all be given.
