From FT: “the really striking thing on the chart isn’t London – it’s Northern Ireland. Thanks to the NI Protocol…it’s the only part of the UK outside London with GDP above pre-pandemic levels. NI’s relative economic success is because of its partial opt-out from Brexit.”
Hello OP, could you link a source please for approval? thank you
See, these figures are strange. The UK economy was supposidly just ahead of pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2021, yet here we see the country must be massively behind.

Both can’t be true

Have no fear, BoJo will fix it
Yep but what’s UK level, or you guys want a londexit from UK? Brexit was already a disaster ton it’s own
Oh, this won’t be popular…
Imagine that, the area least affected by Brexit due to the protocol is the most successful.
What area is the Western Midlands? Was it already pretty deprived before the pandemic?
This looks like bullshit.
I’ve been reading ONS GDP figures for the past 2 years and GDP is now above prepandemic levels in both monthly and quarterly GDP.
The graph suggests that overall GDP would be lower than prepandemic but that is just false.
Does the FT provide a source because this goes counter to everything we know about the economy?
