The Milwaukee Health Department has ordered a Sentry Foods, at 7101 W. Lisbon Ave., to temporarily close due to recurring pest activity.
The department issued an order to cease operations at the supermarket after observing pest activity during a routine inspection on March 25.
The grocery store will remain closed “until the issue is resolved and verified through reinspection,” department spokesperson Caroline Reinwald said, in a statement.
The store was ordered to close on March 2 after the department found evidence of pest activity during an inspection. The store addressed the violations and reopened the next day.
The health department conducted a follow-up inspection on March 12 to confirm compliance.
City health officials order temporary business closings due to pests, lack of hot water, sewage concerns, or licensing issues, Reinwald said. Each year, the health department’s food inspection team issues around 250 to 300 such orders.
“Each situation is evaluated individually, and enforcement action is taken when violations are observed to protect public health,” Reinwald said. “These situations do not indicate a broader issue in a specific neighborhood.”
The Sentry’s owner, identified in city licensing records as Mandeep Kler, didn’t immediately respond to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s request for comment.
