Cannabis revenues could be very HIGH

  1. There would be a small but measurable reduction in Alcohol sales.

It is no surprise that those with interests in Alcohol sales lobby heavily against the legalisation of Cannabis.

  2. Cannabis revenue would be so high they could probably afford to ease up on some other taxes and still make a massive profit. It has overtaken alcohol sales in every other place it’s been legalised recreationally.

  3. Gonna be the devil’s avocado here. Would the reduction in alcohol sales not offset the revenue gains in cannabis sales?

All for legalisation, just back from Canada and miss them edibles so so much.

  4. Take money out of the Kinahans pockets and into the governments why the hell not.

If the fear is DUIs increasing use even 10% of the revenue to increase garda presence and checkpoints (would help with them pesky drunks too)

Invest ~20% in drug rehabilitation if that’s a concern god knows it would help with the actual drug addicts in the country (coke, crack etc.)

And then boom you’ve a nice little chunk of money to go… Straight into raises for TDs

  5. “yeah but what about the mental health impacts?” – the usual gimps who seem to think mental health problems are in no way compounded by the threat of legal consequences.

  6. They have to legalize the shit.
I’m facing a prison sentence for weed and I’m taking the taxpayer for every cent I can for this. You’ll all be paying for my food, bed, education, gym and medical attention in there because I wanted to smoke some weed.

  7. Can you imagine the cost of legal weed if it ever comes to be. Between taxes and good old Irish robbery it will probably be the highest I Europe.
    30 quid a gram… Mark my words… I’ll be going my own !!!

  8. Can we not, as responsible adults, be allowed to make these decisions for ourselves? People drink, smoke, eat fast food, skydive, bungy jump and can do so without permission or penalties. Why is Cannabis any different? Do we have to be nannied over a plant? Make it make sense!

  9. Based on similar sized states in America, weed sales could generate revenues of €300 million a year.

On top of that it would create at least 10,000 jobs.

Also it saves the criminal justice system time and money, which I don’t have an estimate for.

If there was a referendum tomorrow, I’d vote for it and I don’t smoke weed.

  10. I have a genuine question (pardon my ignorance) about the legalize weed thing. I am not a weed user, not against/don’t care if or who uses it. I am not against legalizing it either. I am wondering what is the expectation with legalizing weed.

1-) Is it about buying weed legally with the same market price with no limitation (as in no need for certificate etc.)? Then won’t be the price of it get increased as taxation will be in effect? From what I remember, the price of weed in current state is way higher compared to mainland. Does people expect price to go down when it’s legalized?

2-) Does people want to just walk to a dispenser and get weed without requiring any doctors note or something? If doctor’s note (or equivalent) required from some health professional, won’t it cause even extra load on GPs and doctors as currently it’s even impossible to find a new GP?

Or people just want to buy and smoke weed from where ever they find and not get penalized for it?

  11. Im all for legalising it but I think we need more restrictions around smoking and vaping in general.

People blowing massive puffs of vape smoke on the street is obnoxious as hell and can’t stand walking by smokers on the street. Really don’t want to add any other kind of smoking into that mix.

I’m all for letting people smoke at home but if I don’t choose to smoke, I don’t want to suffer it from others.

  12. Yea, its hilarious that our government and police are protecting an artificially inflated market in order to fund armed criminal gangs and our media never questions them.

  13. Shut the fuck up, take my money and stop treating me like a criminal yis cunts. Leave me to my smokes and box sets in peace.

  14. I feel over there is a net benefit to legalisation, but too often these threads turn in to a love fest for the mind altering substance, and a true appreciation of the pros and cons is absent. There are a lot of positives to consider, but pros in the absence of cons sounds like a dodgy sales pitch to me. What damage have these societies and people sustained when they legalised weed?
