This time next week will be the start of the long Easter Bank Holiday weekend, bringing with it chocolate egg hunts, family gatherings, and an expectation to produce an Instagram-worthy Sunday roast. To help keep the kitchen stress free, supermarket Iceland has launched a new roast dinner in a box, offering a hassle-free, budget-friendly way to impress without compromising on taste.

Launched on March 24, Iceland’s Easter range features two options designed to serve a family of four. There’s a lamb dinner choice for £30, and a marginally cheaper chicken variant, priced at £25.

Each box includes everything required for a complete roast, from the main meat to accompaniments and gravy, eliminating the need for an additional shopping list. It also allows the designated cook to spend more time with loved ones, rather than managing oven shelves.

The chicken variant of the box features a roast chicken, roast potatoes, beef dripping Yorkshire puddings, honey glazed parsnips, mixed vegetables and chicken gravy. This amounts to £6.25 per head, delivering a meal that’s certain to impress family and friends.

The lamb box is arguably the most traditional for the occasion, though. Within, there’s a substantial leg of lamb, a gravy and the same accompaniments as the chicken box. At approximately £7.50 per head, it’s competitively priced against purchasing ingredients separately, while also saving time and enabling shoppers to avoid the supermarkets during the hectic weekend.

Iceland are launching a roast dinner in box for Easter which serves 4 people.

Elsewhere, Cook is providing this Lamb Easter Dinner Box for 6, priced at £77.45, equating to £12.90 per head. It features a slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with white wine and rosemary jus, dauphinoise potatoes, red cabbage and trio of greens. It’s perfect for those who’d prefer shoulder to leg, though for bigger families, purchasing two of Iceland’s boxes still represents better value to feed more people, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Alternatively, supermarkets such as Tesco, Marks and Spencer and Aldi will undoubtedly be launching Easter meal deals and premium dine-in selections for those who favour shopping in store, rather than online.

However, when it comes to Iceland’s proposition, journalists who’ve already tested the box emphasise just how much of a time-saver it is – not to mention delicious, too. Manchester Evening News’ Emma Gill discovered the box contained “everything you need for a family meal for four – and more than we’d typically have.”

She commended the simplicity of the cooking process, noting that all of the timings were spot-on, except for the parsnips, which appeared to ‘need another 10 minutes until they were soft enough.’

“The lamb itself was lovely and tender,” she said, mentioning that the Yorkshire puddings were “big and fluffy” and the gravy “full of flavour.”

Meanwhile, Abigail Nicholson from the Daily Record reinforced the convenience factor, rating the box “a solid eight out of 10”.

She said: “Something I hadn’t anticipated was just how straightforward this box would be to prepare. For a typical Sunday roast, I’d be toiling away in the kitchen for multiple hours, particularly in those final hours before serving up. However, with this box, I reckon I managed to spend two additional hours than usual with my young daughter which is simply invaluable.”

Regarding the food itself, she described the lamb as “succulent, tender and cooked to perfection”. Abigail added: “One of the standout products for me was the Yorkshire puddings, they were the best I have EVER had.”

Therefore, for those seeking a method to save both time and money this Easter, the Iceland Roast Dinner In A Box might provide the solution. They’re praised as beginner-friendly with ample portions, and offer a hassle-free approach to entertaining guests without dedicating hours to kitchen preparation.
