Saab has announced it has been awarded a contract by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to deliver a tactical engagement simulation (TES) system for Slovakia’s Ministry of Defence (MoD). The contract, designated the Warfare Live Training Simulator System (WLTSS) by Slovakia, is valued at approximately SEK160 million (USD17.2 million).
Based on Saab’s Gamer live training system, the WLTSS will equip up to 725 soldiers with laser detector harnesses and laser transmitters and detectors for a range of small arms. The system is compatible with current and forthcoming Slovak Armed Forces small arms, including the Grand Power M4M assault rifle and R10 sniper rifle scheduled for procurement from late 2026.
Vehicle detector kits are intended to allow soft-skinned vehicles to be assigned varying protection levels for use as realistic surrogate targets, Saab said.
The WLTSS includes Saab’s recently developed mortar and artillery simulation, which uses augmented reality (AR) to assist forward observers with fire adjustment. It features standard Gamer exercise control and after-action review (AAR) facilities, providing networked support for controllers to record data and conduct debriefs, the company said.
The system includes two communications base stations, allowing for two simultaneous separate exercises in different areas, or a single exercise over an extended area, Saab said.
Deliveries are scheduled for late 2026. A leasing agreement for one platoon’s worth of equipment has been signed to allow training to begin before the first tranche of the main contract is delivered, Saab said.
