A loud siren blaring during each of Ireland’s penalties against Czechia has infuriated fans of the Boys in Green.
The noise, understood to have come from a megaphone within the stadium, could be heard during the shootout, but only when Ireland were taking their spot kicks.
Fans took to social media following the shootout, which Ireland lost 4-3 after Finn Azaz and Alan Browne had their efforts saved by Matej Kovar.
One wrote: “FIFA & the FAI must act. An ambulance siren used during Irish penalties is unacceptable – it’s an emergency signal, especially with an ambulance behind the goal. There must be accountability and a full investigation.”
Another said: “FIFA so when’s the investigation going to be done into the siren that Czech fans kept setting off when Ireland were taking their penalties??”
One other person asked: “Anyone notice that siren sound playing as Ireland took their penalties?”
Another comment read: “That f***ing siren behind the goal that was blaring everytime an Irish player stepped up… A f***ing disgrace!”
“There has to be an investigation into that penalty shootout, the Czechs playing a loud siren every time the Irish took their pen is disgraceful,” said one other.
Ireland let a two-goal lead slip as the Czechs battled back to bring the game to extra-time and penalties on a night full of drama in Prague.
