Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the International Monetary Fund to support economic stability across West Africa.
Edun gave this assurance while receiving the Executive Director for IMF Africa Group III, Quattara Wautabouna, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Details of the meeting, shared via the Ministry of Finance’s official communication channels, indicate that discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and the IMF within the Economic Community of West African States framework. Key focus areas included regional economic stability, policy alignment, and shared growth priorities.
Speaking during the engagement, Edun underscored the importance of sustained partnerships with global financial institutions in navigating economic challenges.
“We recognize the critical role of continued collaboration with the IMF in supporting economic stability, advancing growth, and addressing challenges that affect the ECOWAS region as a whole,” he said.
In his remarks, Wautabouna reiterated the IMF’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships among countries within its Africa Group III constituency, which comprises ECOWAS member states.
He noted that coordinated policy actions and regional cooperation remain essential for building resilience and achieving long-term growth.
The meeting also examined ways to improve economic governance, strengthen fiscal frameworks, and advance reforms aimed at inclusive development across the region.
The engagement highlights Nigeria’s ongoing role in driving regional economic leadership, as well as its efforts to work closely with international partners to enhance stability and promote shared prosperity within West Africa.
