I’m getting pretty weary of all these “revelations” from Cummings. He’s given several interviews and statements since he left office. But apparently he keeps holding stuff back as he keeps giving out new information that he evidently knew all along but chose not to disclose. He could have disclosed the lock-down parties from day one, but we heard nothing from him until other people leaked it.
If I can present a timeline I’ve thrown together:
Cummings was photographed attending an event in the garden of Number 10 on the 15th of May 2020, it was only people sitting around. There was a second photographed even on the 20th of May in the garden where people had drinks in hand. Cummings was admittedly not in the photos for this one.
The lockdown rules at the time were:
>stay-at-home order that prohibited all non-essential travel and social gatherings
>two people from separate households were permitted to meet outside in a public place, such as a park, provided they stayed 2 metres apart
Cummings cleared out his desk from Downing Street on the 14th of November 2020.
On the 26th of May 2021 Cummings gave testimony to MPs regarding the governments response to Covid-19 (This is when he disclosed that Johnson said “Let the bodies pile high” in response to Covid. Said that the Government had failed in it’s response to Covid, and that Matt Handcock was incompetent and should have been sacked). You might argue that this wasn’t the time to bring-up Johnson breaching his own lockdown rules, as it was a formal investigation by MPs into a different topic.
However on the 20 July 2021 he gave an hour long interview to the BBC absolutely railing on about whatever he liked, and complained about Johnson at length. He did not mention the lock-down parties then. He didn’t mention Johnson calling himself the Fuhrer.
The first Partygate story was broken by the press on 30 November 2021. Cummings could have said something at one of the earlier interviews I mentioned.
Over the next two months the story exploded, Stratton was filmed admitting to being at a 2020 Christmas party and resigned. Shaun Bailey was photographed at a party that same Christmas and resigned some of his roles in the London Assembly.
On the 7 January 2022 Cummings acknowledged the events that took place in May 2020. Only repeating what was in the photos. The one with him in it was a work gathering (still against the rules) and the one with drinks at it was against the rules but of course Cummings wasn’t at that one. He still knew about it, the whole time.
I’m conflicted about the truthfulness of this. On one hand I wouldn’t put it past Boris, but on the other hand Cummings is a Machiavellian piece of crap.
Boris is a liar and a moron.
But this sounds like Cummings’ BS.
They deserve each other, quite frankly.
